1964 Johnson 90 Model V4ML-10R
« on: October 20, 2014, 09:39:11 PM »
Just recently purchased an 1986 AquaSport.  It's equipped with a 1964 Johnson 90.  Can anyone direct me to a source with a free download of the owners manual for said OB.  Seems as if it's difficult to come across.  Would rather stay away from buying it, as I found the options for that.

There's a few issues with the running unit that need to be addressed before an open water run.  A starting point (the owner's manual) would be awesome.

That's just plain cool Marc.  :salut:

Diesel, your model is the very last one covered in the service manual, which is very good.
674 pages of info, easy to navigate and can print any page. Excellent scan and very readable with full zoom.

Coin needed to purchase motor in 1964,
$1175.00 MSRP

Just what you need to keep that warhorse running.
Can you get parts?

How about a few pics of this on the boat? Talk about reverse retro.

Good luck. :thumleft:

Thanks Marc and Capt. for the replies and info.  The part hunt has started today.  The motors runs, but has an intermittent misfire at idle and a constant one at throttle.  I've noticed the previous owner's fix of black RTV on the power packs where the wire from the spark plug boot enters the packs or coils.  I need to replace both sets as they only come in sets.  I'll pull the flywheel and look for standard issues also.  I'll upload some pictures a bit later.  I'm replying from a smartphone and am at work.

I'll have to check that site out when I get home to a regular computer!  So it was legite?  and actually had the older stuff in there?  That's cool.  Let me know if you hit any brick walls, I have a friend here in Pcola, Bill Kelly who restores older motors, he's been around a while, I haven't spoke with him in a while, but he has been on the web for a long time, some of us have heard of him probably through the boating world.  I actually worked with him for a short time when I retired from the navy in 03.  He might be bale to help find those hard to get parts.  http://www.maxrules.com/

Power packs on a '64 90HP? Are you sure it's a '64. OMC didn't start using "amplifiers" until '68. Your engine should be a standard points driven magneto. Belt driven distributor with points and condenser and external coil. Show the pics when you get a chance.

Well the cowling certainly isn't from 1964.
Not the 64 I grew up in.

Please correct me if I am wrong or if my search was improper as it would seriously help my hunt for parts.
Here is the site link in which I came to the conclusion of the engine's year.
Engine model corresponds to year under the 90hp category.

Diesel, just by the look of the cowling and the fact it has power packs, ain't no way it's a 64.  Where did you get the model number from, of the engine S/N plate?

Yes.  I have added a picture of the plate in my gallery as I am still not confident in my ability to load to topic of discussion.

Diesel, you've loaded up the pics perfectly to our CAS Photogallery :thumright:

EVERYONE gets freaked out after uploading, unfortunately.

Choose any pic you've uploaded.  Click on the pic you'd like to post...then scroll left to right.

When you get to the far right of your pic, you'll see two options. Thumbnail at the top, or nondescript on the bottom URL.

Just right click and "copy" the BOTTOM URL....this will be full size for posting.

Gets real easy after you've copied. No need to insert to a URL paste, etc. Just right click and Paste your pic anywhere in your post.

That's the good news on loading to the CAS Photogallery.

When its here....its here.

Welcome and glad you've joined :thumright:
