Lew found another rare AS
« on: September 24, 2014, 09:25:45 PM »
Again Lew the Aqua-Guru finds another rare one.  A 250 explorer with a delta-conic hull... Floor was rotted, but cool looking, I'm sure Lew will add details, his upload capability was limited so I helped with the pic good job Lew

Trying for better resolution

That's better

I'd like to see one of those 250s in person. That hull screams speed! Look how it is smooth with no strakes. Too bad they were not built a few years later with composite construction.

Indeed. It does look like it's moving even when anchored. IIRC, a guy my height can stand upright in the cabin.

That hull looks crazy cool.. Why did AS not produce more?  Did it not perform as well in seas?

Bruce, it would be my guess that since AS was using Harry Schoell's Duo-Delta Conic hull design under liscense (and therefore had to pay Harry some bucks, whether it was yearly, by the boat, whatever), they mosy likely decided they didn't need that expense any more...

My memory is fading....which other brands produced the Delta-Conic?

Lew, since you're a guru...can you be a money guru too? Kinda like a genie? That would be great...thanks :thumright:

A quick search seems to indicate the original designer's company is still alive and kickin'.

Thanks Marc for posting this! I left my usb for my phone in ATL. Rode hard and put up wet and salty! I saw this on the side of hwy 59 and turned around to check it out. Full transom with bracket. Twin livewells on each side of the transom with the washdown and bait prep in the middle. I think it has the original motors, twin 200 oceanrunners. Soft tank hatch with the beginnings of some cracks. Soft areas around the helm chairs. He wants 12,500 which of course is totally way too much. Stress cracks around the rodholders, needs new cabin door, lord knows what condition the tank is in. It does have a hatch over the tank so no cutting the floor to check it. When you see one of these it is immediately evident of the difference in this hull and the other style. With the bracket it really opens up the cockpit, I mean it is huge! No hardtop and it needs new cloth on the bimini. I did not see the table for the cabin but it does have the cushions for the cuddy. Trailer looks pretty nice, dual 16" 5000 lb axles. To fix the soft deck areas would be a huge project but doable.
I agree it is one bad azz looking ride and I would love to ride on it just as a comparison to the 245.  My best price would be around 4 grand. It needs a lot of love! And I mean a lot!

Like Bob said it all depended on the agreement Genmar had with the designer.  I'm sure they had to destroy the molds when the agreement ran out.

Interesting read on the designer though.  I see he designed the Trojan International series.  My Uncle had one of those 10.8M.  Lots of room for a 36 footer.  To bad it mysteriously caught fire in the slip one night!

I remember posting about that same boat back around the time I bought my 230 (beginning of '07)  If it would have fit in my yard I would have bought it - don't remember being the $18k he was asking on THT though.

If you stop by the next gathering you can climb all over Dave's, like CB did the time we were in Crystal River.
