Osprey 205 dry storage?
«
on:

Did a lot of power washing / compounding / waxing over the past week plus and learned little if any storage on our 98 205 stays dry.. Could really use some dry storage, would the storage under the front of the console stay dry? Ideas? Thanks

Chis,
I've never owned a boat that had complete, dry storage. Moisture gets in anything that isn't sealed air tight so.....
Important stuff needs to be in a secondary container (duh) but things like life jackets are going to get wet at times unless they are in, say a cabin. Even cabins (on small boats especially) leak but at least give you a little dryness. Space is a preimium on a center console hull. Inexpensive coolers that might not keep ice frozen for a few days will work well for towels, clothes, chips and cookies but they occupy deck space. Your front hatches aren't designed to be air tight so you get water in there but again, keeping stuff in a "second skin" will help.
Campers love dry bags. You may find some that fit well in the hatch areas and can also be laid on the deck but still afford protection. We backpackers like trash bags. Light and cheap.
Where was the photo taken?
Good luck.

Just behind my excessively hot wife!
Thanks for the help. pic is in at the opening of the Annisquam River in Gloucester MA, Wingaersheek Beach which is a popular boat beaching/rafting spot.

We will be going out of Rye Harbor in Rye NH where the boat will be trailer stored in another 2 weeks, last week out of Newburyport MA on the Merrimac River.
I do have extra big zip lock bags, will go that route for jackets, towels and need to stay dry stuff..
For a dual point of reference her is my old previous boat on the same beach - this is why I struggle with current storage and shows how popular this beach can be;
Thanks again,
Chris G

Well then, it's easily understood how you've become dry storage spoiled.
Next to fuel tank hatch covers, dry storage was probably the lowest order of priority for a mid tier boat manufacturer.

Nope, wish it was stepped hull. It was an 89 in very good condition with 2x 454/365HP = 60gph at wot. In 3 hours I could drain the 180gal fuel cell! Adapting to no longer having the ability to push through / knock down / cut through swells and 3-5footers - now the seas have an opinion that I need to respect...
I do not miss the $ spent on fuel / repairs or wearing out 1 ton pick-ups towing it or destroying our the ends of our driveway leaving the 10K lbs on a tri-axle trailer. The pic on the beach there are probably 5-6 offshore boats in a row behind mine - I think one of the passengers on another boat is the guy that bought mine. Hope he is enjoying the current near $4gal fuel price..
Guess I do miss the bar, head, fridge and place to crash overnight.. Like I mentioned, adapting!

Your right about this, a sealed tub in the large front deck space and the extra life jackets under the console. I use the fish boxes for bumpers etc........a good excuse to get some extra weight out of the boat.

Hi Chris,
I also will wholeheartedly recommend you just plan for secondary sealed storage containers and drybags for your dry storage. Ditch the ziploc idea!! Been there done that and regret it. What specifically are you looking to keep dry? Basic items like charts, TP, spare bulbs and tools, rags, etc?...essential stuff like wallets, phones, keys??
Nice pics. Love seeing the New Englanders get out there and live it up during the summer!!
Makes me miss home alot.
Grew up in CT, livin it up in FL now.

thanks Georgie, I ordered two of these
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0083G ... UTF8&psc=1
one for life vests and the second for everything else - yes like towels, tools, clothing and such. Funny I found a huge ziplok bag in our basement and put some towels and tools in it - after just one day in the forward most anchor locker it leaked and everything was soaked. It really amazes me how the forward floor lockers get water in them without taking major waves over the bow. Is it just the tiny vents up towards the pulpit letting water in??
Thanks again.
(Hey if anyone can help with my recent prop pitch question with their experiences I would be thrilled!)
