Is the serial number stamped anywhere? I see some on the block and the heads....but none seem to look like model serial numbers?

good deal.  i just finished doing all that this past winter.  got lucky enough to get a donor motor for all the parts i needed in great shape for $200.

listen, if the only reason you are removing the powerhead is to change the lower mounts, dont do that.  i had a hell of a time getting mine off and ended having to drill the four, front, long bolts.  this ruins the adapter plate and had to find a new one.  you can remove the bottom mount by just taking a sawzall between the mid and bottom yoke.  support the motor.   when you reinstall, just put the bolts in backwards and you are done.  use plenty of the non hardening gasket stuff all over the new mounts, caps etc.  done.

i almost forgot.  there is a c-clip that holds the yoke to the bottom of the steering shaft.  make sure its there.  if not, its rusted enough to have lost it and time to change the arm.  then the powerhead needs to come off.  if the bolts arent frozen (which most are) its easy to do.  sometimes they will unstick if you hang it 1mm off the ground overnight from the picker and apply heat with penetrating fluid.

Jason, I'm replacing the entire assembly. I'm assuming you mean take the weight off the bracket, undo the two upper bolts by the tiller, when remove the bottom ones? I guess that makes sense? I can then just bolt on the new assembly? Makes sense........ Am I overlooking anything?

Fletch,
Stick to your original plan. The serial number on the powerhead is stamped on a welsh plug (about a quarter sized round aluminum disc) The number will start off with "OA" "OG" "OT" something like that. Pull the powerhead and gearcase. Order the correct gasket based on the serial number and go for it.

What is the purpose of removing the powerhead? to make mating the transom dracket to the mid section easier??

if you have the whole assembly then go for it.  thats what i did.  if you are only doing the bottom mounts no need to pull the powerhead.  no bolts come out or loosen except the bottom ones.  1 hour job at most.  but if the top is rusty and you have the whole thing, just do the whole thing.  1 day job if the powerhead doesnt decide to be a little bastard.  new gaskets down there are good every now and then anyway and it offers a chance to check everything out.  if you have trouble removing the powerhead, let us know.

post a picture of the actual parts you are replacing.  the upper bolts go through the upper mount.  i guarantee those mounts will need changed.  bottom bolts go through the bottom mounts.  the tops cannot come out until the PH is off.  to clarify, im talking about the steering arm.
