Boat Insurance
« on: July 01, 2014, 09:46:40 AM »
Hi all...

I know that boat insurance is a regional thing, but I'm wondering if any members have information regarding what they feel might be the best deal for boat insurance in the Massachusetts.  I used Progressive last summer, and I've been told that I paid way too much.  Any input would be helpful... thanks!!

I use Boat US down here in Fla.  They were the most competitive plus I just bundle it with my on the water towing, trailer asst. and west marine membership.  I pay one bill for all three a year.  They also give me a increasing discount every year for no claims..  Hope that helps.

I have Boat US insurance bundled with my towing etc same as Bruce.  I wish I could get a little higher hull coverage than I have but hey it's better than nothing.

My quote from Progressive was $208

and BoatUS, once I adjusted it to as close to the same coverage as I could, was $212.

but I couldn't take the $5000 fishing equipment coverage off the BoatUS  to make them closer to the same (I could have added it to the Progressive). I noticed  Boat US was a $250 tow with a $500 annual limit and Progressive was $300 tow with no limit...  I adjusted the deductible to be as close to $500 each as I could... so I would call them dead even.

I went with Progressive simply because I already had a policy with them for my UTV and I've had them before. However might switch if they do the old "bait and switch" on me next year.

Or... if I find I can combine their towing coverage I didn't see anything telling me I could save money if I joined while I went through the online quote process. I did note it asked if I was a member but it never prompted me to compare rates if I joined nor encouraged me to join in any way. I need to review that and check into it. Might make me change. Like I said, its dead even so anything could tip the scale in their favor.
