Rusty eye removal?
« on: May 25, 2014, 05:36:55 PM »
Port side of my 222 on the transom. Very, very rusted especially on the inside of the transom. I do have some access from inside the port transom box. I can get a wrench on it but I don't think I will ever get it to turn. It has been PBd for a week.

Any ideas? I am thinking sawzall but I don't know if I can get it in there. Next choice is a hacksaw.

You can see it on the left of this pic, it is getting more and more rust draining down everyday.

Cut-off wheel, Lewis.  Cut the U portion off at the top of the jam nuts.  Back the nuts off, then poke each of the shanks through the holes from the outside...easy peasy...

Seabob's right on the spot with this one :thumright: Had the same issue on mine at the beginning of the rebuild. Just used a cut off wheel and I then crosshaired the left over piece as I had a nut on the outside as well, cross hair cutting let the nut break off the left over piece, then just punch the rest to the inside :thumright: Might want to keep a spray bottle of water near it to keep the hull cool as I'm sure you don't want to re-paint the area :salut:
