Photo Gallery Autosizing
« on: May 19, 2014, 09:09:20 AM »
For all members accustomed to using the Forum's Photo Gallery, please be aware that it appears that while the "auto-sizing" function of the Photo Gallery does work, it is currently set way too large for practical use. It will need tweeking so bear with us.

Those members using Photo Bucket should be fine. I test posted from my account this AM and it worked well.

One of the important functions of the switch was not to lose the existing Gallery photos and it appears that they moved over in full. Also note that if you have an existing Gallery photo (loaded prior to the move) it can be posted at its current size. I posted 5 random ones successfully also.

Good luck and we appreciate your patience as the new IT group sorts this out.

Good job guys!!

Immediately noticeable with the new server is that we now receive PM notices via e-mail.

We need a redirect from the old web address to the new server. I posted the new link on ABC but this will not help those members who only reside here.

Just ran into that, had the old URL as a bookmark on the PC...so with the change it's defunct.

Went to Google, googled it up, see the new URL. Booked marked the new link...good to go.

Thanks for the directive CB :salut:

Excellent job Slick :thumleft: (see the Mod Forum for results).

Now, how can Rick/I/you change the background to a lighter shade so the Gallery is easier to read?
Is that set from your end or can it be done for individual taste?

Thanks Avish/Rick

Can you please specify which color just to be sure I do the right one? Thanks! As it appears the blue background doesn't really have much text on it? Most everything appears to be pretty easy to read.

Maybe for a twenty year old but not a half blind, deaf ol' drunk.

I need a background that will contract to the font color which appears greyish until you mouse over it. Maybe a whiter shade of pale... Sorry, that was before your time.

The blue just seems too "bright". Something lighter possibly??????

I changed it to something that shows the white text.
We'll leave it at that and see how it works out.

CB I see what you mean.. The gallery path  at the header and then the listing along the sides are hard to see as blue...  The white font on the dark background looks really nice for the body, if the other stuff could be lightened up a tad that would really be the shiz.....  Old eyes and all...

Edit: after a good look at the Gallery, 2 things.. 1. The overall look is really good, whoever had the color scheme idea gets a free cool and delicious cocktail.. Avish if"n it was you, sorry man but you get the Shirley Temple version for another year..

2. The dark font is a bit of a downer because it blends with the background when viewed on an iPad.  I agree, a whiter shade of pale or just plain old white would be good for the path names and link lists on the sides.  A shade of red might stand out well too but might get hard to look at after a while..  The white on dark however is a hit! :thumright:

Avish, you are the top Geek and I mean that with the utmost admiration and respect!! Rick and CB, you two ain't bad either     :thumright:  :thumleft:

Many thanks to all involved for the time, effort and $$ put into the upgrade!! :salut:  :salut:

Make sure you refresh the page (address bar to the right you'll see a refresh button near the "X" button.
I messed around with the themes of the gallery a bunch this morning and you'll need to make sure you're not using cached info.
I think the gun metal theme is not bad until we get time to shake everything out some more.

Two things with the new Gallery folks.
If you're having problems uploading/editing/posting from there, try "refreshing" your internet browser. I'm using Firefox and the refresh button on the latest version resides on the right side of the website address bar (looks like an arrow in a clockwise circle). Remember, if you have been visiting the site and its different areas over the years, your computer has accumulated "cache" which helps it return to those pages quicker. With time, newer visits replace/update this caching and the "funkiness" will clear but by refreshing you help speed up the process. (Rick beat me to it)

Remember, for you members using a third party photo host (like say, Photo Bucket) posting photos is no different than before. I don't recall what PB's max size on photos is but this site is limited to a size of 1100 x 800. With today's monitors resolution and screen size, a photo sized at 640 x 480 is very clear and easy to see. The auto sizing function of our Gallery is set at that limit. Sizing your photos at that level (or slightly larger say, 800 x 800) also helps you save space on your PH account so.......

Post away with the pics as we all love Aquaporn and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised, especially with the speed. :o

Good luck and feel free to post in this forum with your concerns.
