Need some help
« on: April 23, 2014, 01:45:43 PM »
Back to working on my friends 1997 50 hp Evinrude. I also finally figured out the problem. it’s the fuel pump. Took it out, took the front end apart. That’s the vacuum chamber. Gas came out. Theres not suppose to be gas in that part of the pump. Sooooo its leaking from the gas side of the pump into the vacuum side. They use to sell rebuild kits for these pumps. Can’t find one any where. So Its either replace the pump, which is $400 bucks. Or find a used one. My friend doesn’t want to put a new one on this old a motor. So I was going to call Marine parts outlet. They sell used parts. But I don’t know a thing about them. Has anyone had dealings with them for used motor parts, or does anyone know of a dealer who my still have a rebuild kit?  I can make a part for the back of an old pulse pump, but my friend doesn’t want to go that way. He doesn’t want to go back to mixing fuel.

Walt, do you have a P/N for the rebuild kit?

Hey Bob that’s not the pump kit for the vro pump. That’s the kit for the older pulse pump. That’s what I would use on this motor. With the older used pump and that rebuild kit. You can make an adapter to fit the old pump, that lets you hook the vacuum line for the vro pump. To the back of the older pump and use it to run the motor. Works like a charm. Only you have to go back to mixing the oil in the gas. I don’t mind doing that, but my friend doesn’t want to. So I’ll give the place  Georgie suggested a call and see what that kit is they are listing. Thanks to both of you guys. Knew I could get and answer from you guys here. :thumleft:
