Replacing Fuel Tank 1979 200CCP
« on: April 15, 2014, 11:25:51 AM »
I have a 1979 200 CCP and It's close to tank replacement time.  I just got a t-top on her, that mixed with the center console it’s gonna be a pain to get access to the tank.  I was wondering if anyone knew the dimensions to the tank?  I believe it is a 50 gal

It should be the same 72 gallon tank as the 200XF.

See my post on the first page of this thread for a drawing with the dimensions.

Careful now.
We've recently been down this road before.

Upgrades to a 73 occurred in 81. I can't say you don't have the space for that size, I just don't know. I would bet you do.

Good luck.

The 73 gallon tank was 72" long.  The tank coffin was about 80" long or so inside...  so just open up the tank inspection pie plate and measure fore and aft... if you get over 72" you should be OK.

Here is a pic of my new tank being installed in my 200XF (same hull as the CCP, different cap)

Be careful. My 1978 200CCP was in the 50 gallon range... 53 or 55.

Did you replace you 200 tank? If so, was there more space available in the tank coffin?

No. I didnt replace the tank because I ended up junking the 200ccp as i needed almost everything bolted to her to restore the 246CCP i am working on now. The 200 had a soft floor and transom anyway and there was nothing left of her after the strip down. Hated to do it but the 246 will be amazing when its done.

buying a tank is expensive - whether 50 or 73 gal.

In the spirit of measure twice, cut once,  I suggest you get the space open and measure carefully to see what you have.  Then order the biggest tank you can fit.  I did a 1984 tank which was ~72 gal.  I don't know what the earlier models looked like or measureed out to.  Bad idea to have one made and not know where it's going in to.

I finally got the boat back form the mechanics and jumped right into getting the tank out.  Like I said I have a 50 gal but it looks like I have the room for a 73gal.  I'm going put as much gas as I can in there.  Does anyone have a 200ccp with a 73 gal tank?  The one things that worries me is she rides awesome right now.  But with more tank in the aft I'm worried she might run differently.  Any thoughts?

I don't have the 200 CCP, I have the 200 XF. Hull ID says January 84, paint job says 1985 so I'll call it an 84 1/2. I imagine there weren't too many substantial changes to the hull of the boats between 1979 and 1984. Mine has the 73 gallon. Based on that picture you posted, I'd wager there's room. But like everyone else said, measure and put the biggest tank you can in there.

Well, you're adding 23 gallons of fuel which is about 140 additional pounds. Not unlike having an additional person on board only with a couple of differences.
1. The additional weight is carried lower and confined to the center line of the hull.
2. During operation, this new weight is constantly being reduced.

Now, if you are a good fisherman, you will be offsetting this weight delta as the day goes on but......

The 200CCPs did run 73 gal tanks and I'd guess they rode about the same as their 200 50 gal. counterparts, probably better in some sea conditions due to the extra ballast.

I'd bet you will be fine.

Good luck.

Considering the 200XF weighs more than the CCP to start with the ride will be fine.

I built my own tank. The rule of thumb for a new one is $10-$15 per gallon.
