Good deal on Lowrance HDS units
« on: April 08, 2014, 10:29:55 AM »
I decided I wanted to add a second display to my Lowrance HDS system on my 245.  Lowrance had a $200 spring upgrade rebate going on that ended Sunday.  I decided on getting the HDS-7M Gen2 Touch Chart plotter.  I can network it with my existing HDS and be able to view my side scan and regular sonar on either unit.  List price on the unit was $1,199.  I found the unit online at GPS city for $1,049.  So less the $200 I'm into it for $849 plus shipping.  I had good luck with GPS City last year when I ordered my new VHF.  I figured its a good deal so I pulled the trigger Sunday.

Monday I get an email from GPS City that due to the amount of the order they have to ship the unit to the billing address of my credit card and not my work.  OK fine.  I don't hear anything else.  I decide to shoot them a email this morning to find out more.... they say it's on back order and they will ship in a few days. OK I'm good with that.  I go to Lowrance's web site to find out the latest date that I can mail in the rebate forms.  Guess what? I see they have a new rebate that started on Monday for the 7" HDS units for $200 off until June.  Cool.  "Wait a minute.."  I notice the list price on the HDS-7M touch is listed as $899... HUH?  I go to GPS City's web site.  They lowered the price THIS MORNING on the unit to $849!  Hold on a minute here!  Numbers shoot around in my head.. that's $649 after rebate...  Hey I'm not loosing out on $200 if they didn't ship the unit yet!  I send GPS city an email asking about the new pricing.  In less then 15 minutes I get an email back that they adjusted my order to reflect the new price!  SWEET!

So this is a long winded post about how the HDS units have come down in price (I suspect chirp units are on the way)  And that GPS City has good pricing and has good customer service!  :salut:

You know when I placed the order Sunday I think they were at $1,099.00, so it is interesting they are that much lower with the new price.

Thats an elite unit, that cannot be networked with the HDS units.  Thats why it is less $$$

Gotcha.. I did not look at it that closely.  I am sure you will have it up and running for our gathering.  Did you ever get your Radar up and running in good condition?

For a moment I was very excited.  I'd just about settled on an HDS7...but the budget hasn't opened up a $1600 line-item, yet.  When I saw y'all talking about $790, $590, etc...I was thinking I was in.  I missed the "7M" part of it, so its essentially just a chartplotter/display.  I need the whole deal, the depth/structure scan module, the transducer(s), etc....that's still in the $1200 range, before rebate.

Oh well, I've got a jetski for sale, and its spring, so people suddenly remember they like jetski's; that's my "transom/electronics" fund's main forecasted contributor.

The nice thing about the touch units with sonar is the structure scan is built in and you don't need the external "black box"  You will need the structure scan transducer though.  I think they have a bundle rebate going on too.  But your right the 7" unit with the sonar and a transducer runs about $1,099.  Still that is a great deal compared to what I paid for my HDS bundle last year.
