Are you sure??????

Just kidding!!!

Well I'm pretty sure.  Should be 5 wires in it.  Red, blue, green, white, and black...

More progress. The coring on the console is just mulch in places so before I go and spend all this time rigging the new motor i decided to fix all the console issues. I pulled the console today. The past couple of days when i could work on it I also pulled all the wiring out. I did find that there is actually a rigging trough under the deck alongside the stringer on the starboard side. The way the PO had this thing wired there were so many unneeded stuff in this area you could not even see the trough existed.

Looks really weird without the windshield and handrail.

Some of the bad coring around the tach and speedo holes

Lots of open space now!

Amazing what 31 years of being soaked in saltwater and rain will do to plywood. I found some interesting stuff today as I took the teak access door off the console. Underneath the teak surround molding were several pencil marks used to align the door and where to do the cutout. I would think looking at the condition of the screws and how hard they were to remove it has not seen the light of day since they were put on there. Pretty cool stuff. The good news for the day after removing quite a bit of coring was only the half of ply surrounding the helm area was toast. i cut a line with my multitool and plan on leaving the good half right where it is.

Ubiquitous wood mulch pic.

Notice the clean glass around the gauge holes. In addition to not sealing around the gauges after this section was lamd they didn't have enough wet glass and ended up with large air gaps behind the core.

Coring for the handrail. Almost the whole piece popped off as one unit with just a little prying. You can see the air gap behind the ply. Grinding starts tomorrow.

Started back working on the console after a 2 week hiatus. I have decided to completely change the way the boat was wired. Doing away with the perko switches in favor of one of these kits. Anybody else tried one of these?

I also ordered one of these.

And one of these. Should be plug and play with the newer motor.

Now I have some holes to fill!!!

Time to catch up now this thing is fixed.

Took all the coring out and ground out the bad glass.
I then bedded all new ply into epoxy cabosil mix. Next wet out one layer of 6 ounce over the repair.

Braces to keep it tight. I had to break them off the next day.

More coring.

good squeeze out

Lots of small holes to fill.

Speaker location.

New electrical setup. The bottom of the box of gloves represents the bottom of the shelf in the console. If I move anything higher access will suck.

New dash layout  with new motor controls and stereo in its spot.

More glassing

Last bit of glassing. This is the lip around the bottom of the console. Thank god for scroll saws.

Bedded.

After all that cured for a couple of days I sanded the entire inside of the console and rolled on some epoxy with white colorant in it. It really needs one more coat but not anytime soon. ( like another 30 years HA!)

Filled all the small holes and buffed it out today.

Lookin' good  Lew  :salut:
Looks like it'll last a few more decades.
While you have the console out, any thoughts on replacing the deck?
