JRC Radar 1000
« on: February 25, 2014, 02:17:32 PM »
I bought a used radar for Marc-Time and installed it this past weekend, still working out the bugs with trying to get the position data to show up on the head unit from my GPS, but more aggrevating is the back lighting is apparently done.. It is very hard to see.  I found this guy Steve Senft at http://marineelectronicsrepair.com/ in Bradenton, has anyone had dealings with him?  He sounds good.. Thanks

Marc, they are part of Jaytron, excellent company.  Anything NOT Garmin we installed at PL, we bought from Jaytron.  They've been around a long time, and they are good... :salut:

Thanks Bob, figured you would pipe in since they are around you, and thats your business... he said 50 bucks to check it out, he may have some old parts for it from other similar stuff, that might get it working, I dont want to spend a bunch on it, I gave 400 for the whole set up, and since its old it might crap out tomorrow, but the gamble we play

Marc, don't know if you know this, but JRC (Japanese Radio Corporation) used to provide Furuno with a lot of their stuff before they decided to enter the market under their own brand.  So it's a good possibility Jaytron service has the parts.  It may need a circuit board rather than just back-lighting, but, in the long run, a good deal...

Update.. went out this weekend, and tuned the radar in, everything is working well, after getting my NMEA wiring correct all the GPS data is correct on the radar screen.. now the only problem, is the back lighting, during the day its manageable, you can see everything ok, but went out last night, and nada!! its too dark to make out.  So I think I will take the back off and see what I can see first, then maybe contact steve over in Bradenton.. if it looks too technical, I'll just button it up and send it to him.. any other ideas are welcome.

It IS possible that the back-lighting is simply bulbs that plug into sockets.  Marc, have you tried to adjust display brightness and/or contrast in the menu?

the only adjustment is on the front, contrast and lighting.. pushing button displays 1-9 then turns it off.  what is unusual, is the lighting behind the knob, joystick and button work, just not behind the screen, may be a board.. or as you say might be small plug ins... we'll see...

So Marc, when you press the Contrast/Dim key, it clearly shows you a number (level) which you can change (probably via the joystick), yet the screen "lighting" doesn't change, correct?  I also noticed in the manual that you can change the screen to show targets in black on a white background and visa versa.  Have you tried that?  Here's the manual (which I'm sure you've already gone through this crap)...http://www.pronav.no/engelske-manualer/ ... 201000.pdf
