Trailer Bunk Spacing for a FB 222
«

I wanted to check with some of the builders out there and see what the common bunk spacing measurements are for their trailers. My boat is flipped right now and before we put it right side up on the trailer I would prefer to ask a few of you that already have one set up rather than try to address this after the flip.
I know they should be set on the stringers but I bought this project after the deck was already closed so I do not have any reference to stringer spacing.
Any other pertinent measurements would also be appreciated, (i.e. bunk height, position of bunks over axels, clearance needed at bow, bow support, any of the above).
Thanks

I measured 42 inches inside to inside at the forward bunk bracket, and 45 inches inside to inside at the transom. if your look in my rebuild thread you can see pretty good how the boat sits on the trailer. my trailer is on the small side but does the job just fine...

I'll have to measure mine tomorrow to be certain, but if the drawing I have at work is accurate (and I think it is), my main stringers are right around 36" center to center. With the trapezoid shape of the original stringers (which Aaron and I both have), I believe his bunks will fall within the outer edges of his stringers. I don't have a trailer for this boat yet (it is on the trailer for my other boat), so I can't give you any meaningful bunk measurements.
One caution though - I specifically mentioned "original" stringers. Many of the rebuilds are done with foam boards that are only 2"-3" wide, so the margin of error, as far as coordinating your bunk locations with the stringers, is much smaller. Does your boat have a bilge or any pie plates you can look in to see what the stringer design is?

my bunks are just inside the outside edge of the stringers, bunks are narrow enough to easily get my forklift under the boat for easy loading/unloading

what you could probably do to find where your stringers are is take a rubber or plastic mallet and tap the hull bottom and listen for a solid spot, when you hear the solid spot, mark it with a pencil or small piece of tape, do that about every foot or so starting near the transom and work your way forward until you get a good idea of the spacing

Thanks for the feedback, just now checking back in. I'll check with a mallet to see if I can find my exact location of the stringers but your measurements will be a good start. The previous owner pulled the foam and rebuilt the original stringers in place so I assume the original spacing would suffice.
I appreciate the feedback.
