Marine Fuel-Fill Hose
« on: February 11, 2014, 05:36:57 AM »
Our new member Nick priced 1.5 inch ID USCG approved fire-retardant fuel-fill hose yesterday. It was HIGH.

Any good sources you guys can recommend?

Here is a discussion on fill hose. Typical THT chest thumping and preening, but there are a few bits of solid info.

With respect to the idea of a hose within a hose; Looks like you'd end up with a max ID of around 7/8ths. A gas pump nozzle would not go in.

Even if it would wedge in, the nozzle would act as a stopper at the fill end, preventing fumes from escaping....almost impossible to get a flow.

You'd also have potential liability concerns in the event of a fuel spill or other mishap.

Scotty, found MPI (what we used at PL) 1 1/2" for $7/ft on ebay...http://www.ebay.com/itm/MPI-355-1120-1- ... 0341358929

Trouble is the outfit wants $15 for shipping.  How much did you guys price it at, and was it Shields Fire-a-col?  MPI is just as good and always cheaper...

You need the red-stripe USCG hose for fuel lines - and yes, it is costly!     But your insurance is not valid unless you use it...    Are there other options that are similar?  Sure, but not certified by the Coasties...

I bought both the 1 1/2" and vent hose for about $10 a foot together at Marine Surplus (obviously it wasn't surplus).

Another vote for a marine surplus store.  I picked up some MPI 1-1/2" fuel hose (with the red stripe :thumright: ) for somewhere in the neighborhood of $5/foot.  The vent line was about half that.  The place I go to is in Homossassa, FL (Quality Marine).
