19 yesterday morning. Got way up to 34 for the high! 26 right now on the back porch. Snow or something frozen on Monday. Low on Tuesday morning supposed to be around 5. Yes, I do live in the south.

19 yesterday morning. The next front coming in Monday, supposed to be 5 (yes, 5 above zero!) Tuesday morning!
Maybe some of it is because of the altitude. At the house we are just under 1000 feet above sea level.

3 this morning. 83 in front of the wood stove though! We usually don't get these temps because we're surrounded by water. However, Nantucket Sound water temp is currently 37 degrees. There have been a couple of times in my lifetime that Nantucket Sound has completely frozen over. No ferry service unless the Coast Guard sends in the icebreakers.

It's coming here too on Tuesday morning. Already posted the warnings for Flagler county. Low 20's with wind chills in the single digits. Worst cold snap in recent years. Bad news with being in the 70's and 80's through December. I've got Bird of Paradise and Iris in full bloom! All we can do is cover everything up and hope for the best. Splitin wood for the fireplace today. So much for the warm winter. At least it's only a couple of days so we shouldn't see a Snook kill this go around.

My yesterday "pity party" has fortunately come to an end briefly, as the thermo on the porch just hit 70*, so we are probably looking at around 74 this aft.
But, as Farley said, we are going to see some serious (for us) chilliness Tuesday morn. Forecast for most of Tampa Bay is low 30s Tues morn (me, upper twenties, we'll see, as we pretty close to the water), with high temps during Tues to not get out of the 40s. Sarasota boys might see 50-52.
Nothing compared to Dan, Dave, John, etc., but damn cold for FL!!

It's all relative boys, you should hear us whine in August! Anytime any one of us gets a 30 degree swing in temp it's a shock..
Digging out today it was -14 and dead still quiet, brilliant sun and no clouds. Nothing like it... I tried to get a picture of it but the camera lens fogged and when lens was cold enough not to fog the damn camera didn't work... The sun shining through icicles that are 6 feet long hanging from the south'd roof edge with the arc of the snow coming out of the blower chute going past them. There is a vented propane heater that frosts up the outside wall of the house in this really cool pattern and the cobwebs that are above the vent get a really fine layer of frost on them and sway in the updraft of the heater.. It was really something!
No slaps and jams today, to start out it was lined jeans, insulated coveralls over a down vest, face cover, hat and gloves. Midway through the project, the vest is gone cause it got to hot and the face guard goes down to the chin and the gloves get chaned out for a lighter pair.
Nothing to do about the snotcicles, they are a fact of life, you inhale, your nose hairs freeze and the snotcicles begin to form.. It was lucky that there was no wind because the wind makes your eyes water, then you blink and your eyelashes freeze together.
The snowblower was cold enough that there were a half dozen dry pulls just to get oil moving. Then she would only cough with a shot of ether. I thought about using a heat gun on the carb but that gets a little scary, so it was a squirt of ether, close the choke and pull. I was lucky enough that the cyclinder had no frost in it and the humidity is like -85% (it is dangerous dry) so the plug didn't freeze up after fireing. After about a dozen or so pops she decided to let me win the fight and she ran.. Beats shoveling all to pieces..
The power is on and the ice damage that happened around Christmas will take a a long time to clean up. Nothing to do about it now, it is frozen where it fell.
It is supposed to be 40 on Monday with rain, freezing rain then snow and be back down to 6 by Tuesday morning. Oh joy..
Stay warm boys, the solstice has passed and summer is coming!
