« on: December 30, 2013, 06:50:00 PM »
Recently bought a 1977 196 with a 1993 merc efi....the motor has a 12.5 inch 5 bladed high 5 prop..dont know the pitch....is this anywhere near correct...it seems small....boat will go 41 at wot but no tach on the boat yet to check rpms.....the motor was on a ranger style bass boat and ive heard 5 bladed props are common on these for some reason(?)...thnx for your input...capt kurt

I did respond to you in one of your other posts... You need a tachometer before this conversation can go any further...

If you don't  like what you see on the tach, let me know because I just got done with my 2nd conversation with the prop guy where we've landed on his suggestion being a tiny diameter 4 or 5 blade, pitch TBD (he has an idea, but the plan is to find a used/demo prop between the 2 of us so we can throw it on there and see where we land.)

12.5" 5-blade would certainly fit within what he told me to hunt for.
