One of the guys on johnsoldmercurysite.com found an appropriate connector to replace the Merc design from MSC I believe, although there are some guys on that forum that have piles of those harnesses if you were inclined.

Farley, I will have to check on Johns.  Like I said, it'a slick idea, and really lends to a good, secure, SEALED connector, what with that metal coil type o-ring on the connector body...which of course broke when I was pulling the connectors apart.  Only 50 years old...

Bob for my 70 I used a 2x6 as a mount then put it on a 2x4 frame and put her on casters..

All scrap and did the trick.

A Dave Burr special!!

Didn't cost me a penny.  Scrap lumber (PT) when I dismantled my neighbors old deck for him, and wood screws that were in the shop when we bought our place.  2 hours, but my labor is free...TO ME!!! :salut:  :salut:

Dropped in HF this morn, forgot to get casters... :pale:

:thumright:  :thumleft:

Don't forget the black overspray... It is CRITICAL to the fengschway of the stand...

And hanging the top bracket on the back of the supports makes working on the swivel arm a whole PILE easier.  Not gonna mention how I know that and yes I was to lazy I mean busy to change it....

Yes Dave, that was my thought process, as I want to swap out the bushings in the trim cylinders, she lifts up alright, but want to make her a little smoother.  Couldn't have done it the other way with the mounting board the way you had it.

Wonder if power TNT can be adapted to this motor?

Dave, not exactly overspray, but it will do...

And this is looking directly north...towards Maine.  About 2K miles away.  It's about 83 degrees here today...

I like this stand!  Thanks Farley and Dave!  Tilted all the way up, can sit in a comfy chair and work on her...

Off to watch some football...

Good job Bob! Now you can sit down and crack a beer and stare at it! Half the fun is figuring out what all that crazy :*: does on those engines. Dual resistors, coils, that giant finned voltage reg/rectifier, rotten wiring and under the flywheel????? You gotta be walkin around with a limp by now! Can you be arrested for "dating" an outboard motor?

Guys, once I get into her, there will be a lot of questions!  First one, what's the best way to break the flywheel nut loose?  Pulling should be no problem ( ) with a harmonic balancer puller, but what should I do to hold the crank so I can put some leverage on the nut?

Farley, do you know if these motors can be adapted to power TNT?  That would be sweet.  I can set the trim angle with the trim limiter pin, but short of tabs or a REALLY strong buddy, I'll have no trim ability when under way.

Lotsa fun, but good things will come out of it.  Like I said, the LU came off easier than any O/B I've ever worked on, and the WP looked in great shape, so somebody was doing something right along the way...
