Winterizing and Engine Tilt

When I worked at a marina many, many years ago, we left them all down.  I believe they drain better that way.  Any water left inside could cause problems during a hard freeze.

Even here in NC, where it doesn't get as cold, I keep mine trimmed down and remove the prop, and
I still keep the engine covered with a tarp to keep any stray water out of everything...Past 2 years it's been stored all winter under a shelter building with ends on it..I also remove the covers and balls from my ball scuppers so nothing can build up.. but thats just me

Aside from preventing water build up in the cowling and allowing the block to completely drain dry Melo having the motor trimmed all the way down keeps the trim rods inside the cylinders away from the elements and in an oil bath.. Yes stainless actuators and all but it you leave a rod extended crap in the way of winter grim can build up on the rod and cause trouble for the wiper seal in the actuator housing..
