Scott - don't sweat the A/C!  (sorry, I just had to say that   ).  If it has original A/C - it's worthless now and you will pay more to update/repair than a new system would cost.  And the old unit would use environmentally-unfriendly R22 - heck, just try to find some R22 today!   :x

You can pick up a new 18K BTU A/C unit with reverse cycle heat and a nice digital controller for $1500 or so - you may even want to put dual 12K units in there.  The newer units don't pull anywhere near the amps of the old units and are very compact.  You can run two 12K units today off one 30 amp system (or 3.5-4K generator) if you spec the right startup options.   :thumleft:

THANKS for the good advice on the A/C. Lewis was at the Virginia Beach marine trade show and did some sleuthing....he found an outfit out of SC that has some A/C closeouts available, sounds like a good deal.

That 34 with the Yanmars is a beauty. Seems to be in nice condition too. Looks like an exact sistership to ours in terms of the layout.

Thanks for this too :thumright:

Actually Scotty (no offense CJ), on a boat of your size and layout, a single 16K BTU unit would work great.  At Stamas, on our 37 that had a separate fwd stateroom, a VERY large galley/dinette/salon area, an a damn good size mid-berth, we cooled and heated her with a single 18K BTU unit that did just fine.

Bob - I agree 18K BTU would be fine on Scott's boat, but I would not go less, based on experience.  Boats like the Stamas don't have much glass area, and that's where sun/heat comes in.  Modern boats don't have those nice, big windows that let in lots of light (and solar heat).  That's one of the great things about the older boats - they are very light and airy inside.  But, even with tinted windows, those big glass areas add a lot of heat to the cabin.  Also, earlier boats often had no insulation in the overhead - so you do have some radiant heat coming in from above.  Scott's boat has the front windows glassed-in, and that makes a big difference - I've had plenty of experience with those front windows and A/C - put canvas over them if you want the cabin cool.

If you can afford it, even on 32-26 footers, I vote for dual-zone HVAC.  Yes, it will cost around $2,000 more, but it's a one-time investment.  And, like twin engines, if one system goes out, you've still got the other...

Thanks CJ :thumright:

Interesting how they left the salon bulkhead out, and added the dinette...makes for a pretty cool dayboat.

The rest of the photos are exactly as ours looks now.

Scotty, had a buddy in O-town that had an old Chris set up almost the same way.  We used it as a mother ship when skiing.  Made for a really neat indoor/outdoor lounge...

Thanks Gary, Bob, and Bryan. I'm excited. What was going to be a total loss of investment has turned out to be a win-win. And from what life generally throws our way.... a win-win is pretty darn special.

I realize I'm very fortunate to have this luck come my way. And I'm really appreciative too.

Looking forward to getting her finished out, and her makeup on

Thanks again guys :thumright:
