Speaking of fuel capacity, when we changed out the bad tanks, we went with the biggest that would fit. The yellowfin grounds are 60 -75 miles offshore, so wanted plenty of fuel. The new twin tanks hold 207 gallons each, 414 total.
May seem like a lot, but, assuming one uses 2/3 of the fuel (the 1/3 rule, 1/3 to get out and troll, 1/3 to get back, 1/3 in reserve), you'd be looking at around 270 gal per trip. If you have 4 buddies (helmsman, 4 fishing/mating/gaffing/wireman), split the cost and at $4/gal, you're looking at a little over $200/man. Not too bad, considering what you are doing...heading out to get some big eye, blackfin...
