Ariel the Mermaid

Glad you mentioned it. Just went back...wow. The more you look the more you see.

This boat has it going on. Big tower...Palm Beach condition....teak and holly sole....live bait on the swim platform. Rigged and ready.

If there ever was a classic, it's this ride....a 31 Bertram. Hope not crazy money on the ask....but man...she's a hottie

Here is the extension project, been going on for awhile now :) The inside of the hull is also getting beefed up and redesigned.

Two thumbs up :thumright:  :thumleft:

The integration of the bracket and hull is amazing....guess you cut a corresponding chunk out of the transom base and tied to the stringers?

That one motor looks mint!  My best friend and I bought a 28 Bertram when we were young and dumb.  It replaced, of all things, his 1969 22 Aquasport FB.  It had twin gas motors and they were thirsty.  It rode great, raised some fish and we had a bunch of good times on it so that's all that matters.  It just got too costly to run and get commissioned/decommissioned every year and we were starting families so we sold her.  That boat rocked side to side pretty good at rest in a beam sea.  The only negative thing I've heard about the 31's is that they are "wet" boats.  Everyone who's ever been on one swears by the ride quality though.  Good luck!

The extension was created.  And, then the inboard stringers were then also created (slightly smaller) and were built three feet forward of the actual extension. Then they were slid inside the existing stringer system like a sleeve.  The outboard stringers were also glassed together. The bottom was then glassed three or four feet forward and also to the new stern. The boat will likely be powered by triple 300's.

Wow, 900 hp!

Mine has a pair of 454 v8.
Not sure of the horsepower.
They are not very modified motors.
Lite cam work and a good carb.
That is about it.

OK, so, how are the new stringers attached to the existing stringers?
I figured there was some on added support, three ft sounds about right.
You would not what to lose 3 300 hp outboards.
I am sure it is not like a house that you can through bolt and use strong ties.

The boat is being redone for a someone else, I'm not paying for the gas  :D

The new stringers are tied to the existing ones in very strong way. See my above post about the "sleeve" connection. The new inboard stringers actually slid up into the existing ones and then were bonded and glassed. The outboard stringers were also heavily glassed and attached. Then the additional support along the bottom, and sides. Its beefy.

OK, out of the blue, I received a call from the guy selling the Bertram.
We spoke for a bit and I believe it was a positive discussion.
Anyway, we are going to meet for lunch on Saturday.
We will see about working out an agreement.

If you guys remember, this one comes with a transferable mooring in the harbor.
Melanie said it would work out in the long run, I guess we will see?
