Cleat hight
« on: October 09, 2013, 11:53:19 AM »
Hi,
I had a 1999 215 Explorer that I recently sold. A neighbor in the marina claims one of my stern cleats scratched his hull. I am more than willing to own up and do the right thing, but it seems like the scratch on his boat is way too low for my stern cleat to be the culprit.
If you have a 215 Explorer could you please measure from the waterline to the top of a stern cleat and let me know?
I am measuring the height from the waterline to the scratch on his boat tonight, and I am curious to see if, indeed, my boat is to blame. Thanks for your help.

more than height, i would be interested to see the angle and location of the scratch compared to the angle and location of the cleats on your boat... seems most cleats are somewhat "inboard" of the rub rail or euro transoms on 99% of boats I've seen... unless a boat wake went by and caused the boats to bump into each other,,, seems most "dock" damage is just that- from a dock or piling.
good luck and way to be stand-up about it...

I find it hard to believe a stern cleat would be able to scratch a neighboring boat. Also what does the scratch look like? Most cleats  have well rounded edges.

When does he think the damaged happened?  Was it while one of you was underway??    Seems highly unlikely that would cause the damage under normal conditions at a marina where boats are docked in their own spaces or parallel against some sort of floating dock. I am with Bob on this one.... looks like a turd, smells like a turd.. definitely a TURD!
