A missing option is twins. The boat was originally designed to run twins, and many were rigged that way.

Personally, I wouldn't run this hull without twins. Ran her today in a very sloppy sea....she performed flawlessly.

Closed transom, Tampa rigged for tarpon....175 max. Let's not forget this hull jumps on plane, and given the way the hull performs...  less is more. Think twin 55 Homelite's, total 110 HP,  per original advertising.

If the only option was a single would run a 150 Merc or Yammie 4S.

Good poll, Chris!  Eventually I will be needing this kind of information for my 22-2 rebuild.  Do you experienced guys think the results would apply equally to flatbacks as well as later V-hull models?

I love the power and responsiveness of my 175 2s. Twins would be nice but my hull will not accept them. The cutout is not like most 222s.
Cruise at 4000 is around 30, WOT is 43 to 44.8 on GPS at 5500. It will suck the gas at WOT, yet if I just cruise it does really well at sipping it down.

At a listed 375 lbs for my motor, with a full tank and no one aboard, my scuppers are about 2 inches above the water. With the ping pong balls on the outside the only time I get water in is backing down the ramp. I can stop this completely if I remember to plug the holes from the inside before backing into the water. Once on the water I remove them in case I get a wave over the back.

Unlike most of the 222 on here I run a single 300 hp.    



Difference is mine is a V8 Chevy inboard.

i just repowerd my 1970 22-2  flatback from a 150 johnson to a 200 2stroke yamaha.  Its a little too much and not necessary.  I'd say a 175 Suzuki would be perfect.

I am curiuos on the results/ specs of the new 4cyl 4s 200 yam.  With the weight equal too or less than the 4s 150 will the boat do 50?  Or is this another factor of the hull just wont do 50?

I had almost 50 out of my 22 with the 175proxs mercury that I first powered it with
I was running a 21 pitch prop, when I first put the boat in the water and was trying lots of different props
It was scary fast and would not turn enough rpms, I ended up using a 17p 4 blade
Giving me 44-45mph wot still too fast
Anything over 40 on a flat back is white knuckle time, not sure how a 22-2 would ride at 50
My 150 4 stroke merc does 43 with a light load and a 17p enerta prop
still fast enough, seems like the perfect amount of power
4000rpm is 30mph and the perfect cruise

I just purchased an 89 222CCP with a Yami F200. Currently 19P prop and we can only get 32.5 mph. We just raised the engine two holes and are going to try out tomorrow. Cavitation plate was a little low. Also think we may go with a bigger diameter prop. its only 14"

I believe that the posts about top speeds in the high 40s and low 50s are talking about the 222 Osprey.  With a 12 degree deadrise the Osprey is going to be faster with any given power than the 19 degree CCP.  With that said, you should be seeing more top speed out of your motor.  I’d guess that the boat motor combo should see mid 40’s at WOT. 

What is your RPM when you're at WOT?  Unless your prop is spinning past your motor’s recommended WOT max RPM, a larger diameter prop won’t help.  Are there other factors that could be slowing the boat?  Waterlogged foam? Bottom growth?  You already mentioned that your cab plate is low, raising that would reduce drag and help too.  It would be worth chairing these things down before changing props. 

You may get some useful information if you start a thread asking  222 CCP owners what motor/prop combinations they are running, and what there speed/RPM is.  If you get answers, you can compare your combo and results.
