i got one!!!

all of my phones have lasted me maybe a year tops, either go for a swim, or get ran over by some kind of vehicle, ive had my phone for i want to say 3 years

Hey guys,

My Otterbox case on my iphone is worn out and it's time for a replacement.  I was looking into the Lifeproof cases, but I'm seeing alot of negative reviews regarding sound quality (both hearing others clearly as well as others hearing you clearly).  Any firsthand experience from Lifeproof owners to help guide me before I just get another Otterbox?

I spoke with Otterbox today. I'm getting a replacement for mine that failed. Good warranty. It's the Defender series. The guy at Otter told me that they acquired the Lifeproof company :?:  and indeed they offer a waterproof case (Armor series). True or not, think about this. In order to make a case truly waterproof, some phone functions have to be compromised. Think buttons, lens quality (phones take photos) and sound (got to cover the speaker/mike).

That stated, I would not be surprised that the sound quality of a "waterproof" case would be at best, crappy. Because of that fact, I stay with the Defender series which has protected the phone itself from scratches and unintended impacts. This is on a Samsung 3 but my wife and son run the Defender on their iphones and in my son's case, his has survived very well.

More opinion than help.

Thanks Bob.  I do appreciate your opinion, and I agree that sacrifices will probably need to made with a waterproof case.  I don't use my phone too much for photos, so that doesn't bother me.  The Otterbox has an integral screen protector, which I imagine is similar to the Lifeproof, and I'm happy with the touch functions, so I think that will be fine.  But I would like to hear and be heard without alot of "what?", "huh?", etc..  My Otterbox is a Defender model as well, but the rubber jacket is falling apart.  I haven't looked at the warranty - would they replace that part for free?  Maybe I'll just stick with the Otterbox Defender and save a little money, and hope I never drop it in the wizzer like Scott.

Yes they will Craig.
Did my son's and my wife is going to submit hers.
Go to their site and call.Follow the promps and you will need to talk to a warranty person.
He/she will get your info and send you an e-mail link. Follow the directions for a warranty claim and you'll get your replacement in the mail.

I had a otter case for my IPhone  :cry:
Now I have a life proof  :D
The otter started falling apart ASAP
I have had the Lifeproof a year in Jan.......
It's UBF. :wink: .......User Bill Friendly :D
Ain't no  comparison....  IMO
Once you figure out how to plug in the charger you are golden :wink:

Thanks Bill - a comparison between the Otterbox and Lifeproof is exactly what I need :thumleft: .  Did you notice any degradation in audio quality when you switched to the Lifeproof?

Have never listened to music on it or played all them funny games....like my wife does :roll:
So as far as audio quality I can't comment on that
But as far as hearing the person on the other end I noticed no difference between the Otter and the Lifeproof
Also the Lifeproof isn't near as bulky as the Otter case

Seriously, never noticed any.
The only thing I had problems with was the little... I'll call it a hatch that goes over the port for the charger. At first I had a hell of a time getting the plug in, it is really a tight squeeze and the little hatch dohicky wouldn't open enough to insert the plug. I was always afraid of breaking the hatch because you had to force it further open to get the plug in, it works fine now and I never broke the hatch, just took some breaking in I quess.

FWIW..
The pilots phone at work is an iPhone 4S.  It lives in an Otter box with the holder. 4 different guys use that phone and to date it has fallen from 6ft onto concrete at LEAST twice and the phone has stayed intact.. We are on the second case holder because we have busted the clip twice.  You hit concrete from that height and see how you feel...

The rubber case is holding up ok, been about 1.5 years.  The mechanics rubber case is breaking down, seems that normal shop type solvents on the hands are not the best for it..

Audio is good, for normal use it gets clipped on around the collar area of a vest and is used on speaker.  Good audio quality even in the wind...

Ive wanted to try this out for awhile but haven't got around to it.    http://www.liquipel.com/

Everyone ive known with a lifeproof has had it fail at somepoint, and its a pain to connect charger/headphones to.
Ive had the same otter for 2+ yrs. Everything short of a dunk in the water has happened to it and phone is still like new inside. And the case is grippy so it doesn't slide all over the place. I put it somewhere and it stays.

Zip lock bags work well unless you drop your phone a lot, and I do.

Phone protection, like fuel tank size should be based on what you need. I use my phone at work (always have) and in the field it gets dropped from time to time. That's why I choose the protection I do. I have dropped my old Crackberry (not once but twice) in a storm drainage structure that had water present. In those days, you could dry it out in a couple of days and rock steady but I'm not sure that's the case with my G3 so.....

I protect for shock only. Again, knowing what you do with your phone is the key. While I take it out in the boat, it's not energized and indeed is sealed in a zip lock, stowed in the cabin dry box. I'm not really sure why I carry it at all except for the fear of having it stolen from the truck while at sea.

The Otterbox works well in a drop but is huge and un-hip. It does what it's designed to do but the quality could be better IMHO, still........
They have always supported the warranty and another is on the way.

My 4s is in a Lifeproof for 2 yrs now with no issues
Home charger plugs right in
Phone does not ring as loud while in one of these waterproof cases, gotta buy a 4 stroke if you wanna hear it when underway
