grounding fuel filler line

I am about to change out my Fuel fill hose and deck cap. I pulled the old hose out today and noticed there is a ground wire that is twisted around the metal wire that wraps the hose- this is then attached to the bolt that holds the fuel fill cap to the deck.
Is this necessary for the new hose and cap i plan to install?

Chris, I would run a grounding wire from the fill to the grounding tab on the fuel tank, then from the grounding tab to your grounding bus bar or directly to the battery.

thanks Nando! I had the gas tank grounded directly to the battery and today ran a ground from the deck fill to the ground tab on the tank- so now the fill and tank are both grounded to the battery.
