Trailer for a 2000 225 explorer
« on: August 20, 2013, 07:28:52 PM »
The dry weight for the boat is listed as 39-4100lbs. What load rating should I realistically be looking at in a trailer? Trying to figure out how much I would have to spend if I get this boat.
Thanks. John.

If you get a trailer with dual 3500# springs or torsions you will be fine. Or you could go rolls axle for the same weights and not worry about it again.

Where ya located?  I may have a trailer for a 245 Explorer for sale soon.   As already mentioned Tandem 3500lbs axle trailer will be fine.

I'm in NY. So if I'm doing the math correctly, I should be looking at a 7k lb rated trailer? Seems a little overkill. I obviously don't really know what I'm talking abt. Most trailers I've seen specs on list it as total capacity.

A 7,000 GVW trailer will weigh 7K lbs fully loaded to capacity.  That includes the empty weight of the trailer.  Keep in  mine you have to add on the weight of your motors, full fuel tank, gear, ice, anchor chain, water, etc etc plus the empty weight of the trailer on top of the dry weight of the hull.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize the weight of the trailer itself was added to the weight of the boat, motor, gear, etc. in figuring the size trailer I need.
