What's this Explorer worth in your area ??
« on: August 14, 2013, 10:46:02 AM »
This a ad for a  boat in my area.
95 225 Explorer, not interested in it myself, not a fan of the euro butt end.
Just wondering what some of you think it would sell for in your area.
Boat prices are high in my neck of the woods.

Wow, 35k for that

I would say maybe 15k to 20k max only because of the engine :?:    I might be on the low side, but after all it is a 1995 model.  I know a boat is worth as much as someone wants to pay but..........

That guy is nuckin' futts.

I'm thinking in the 15K range, max. I look at what Bruce (wingtime) gave for his 240 here in town....his ride is NICE, and we got it for a song :thumright:

agree, in the 15-20 range only because of the newer trailer, engine, rigging etc..

Man that thing has to be the cleanest Explorer I've seen.  I don't think there is another whistle or bell you can put on it!  Around here it might be a $20K+ boat.  Whats a Verado with full controls worth?  Kicker, radar, electric downriggers... Full enclosures?   Trailer?...  Start adding up what all that stuff is...  New that rig would be what? $80 grand or more?

It does have the bells and whistles....but as soon as they're installed they're "used."

Like JD said...its a twenty two foot '95 model any way you slice it.

Is it rated at 22.5 LOA, or is that w/o the euro extension.
If it's LOA you are actually only buying a 19 footer.

If I added up all the money I sunk in my old gal over the last 20 some years in different electronics, engines, new trailer, upgrades and repairs I would think she would be worth well over 30-35 grand.
In all reality I had a appraisal done a couple years ago for my insurance co., it came in at $7000.

But seeing how high boat prices are out here...
whats ya think, maybe I should see if I could get 20 grand for her

Granted all that stuff is used.  But one way to look at it is break it down into what the used prices of all that stuff would sell for and add it up.  Yeah it's a 1995 but man that thing is cleaner than some 2005s I've seen.

The 225 is actually over 24' LOA and the 245 is over 26' LOA.  At first I hated the Euro transom... but now that I have one I LOVE it.  With the step in the hull the boat acts and handles like a much longer boat.  The enclosed transom gives you a nice fuzzy feeling in a following sea.  The swim platform is great for diving and scalloping.  The livewell nice to have.  The back wall keeps the engine noise down considerably.  There is no rigging or fuel lines in the cockpit.  I can set a couple of deck chairs right against the transom wall for a nice spot for guests to ride.  Like I said when I had my 200XF I would look at the Euro transom and think that was a waste of space.  Now I wouldn't own anything else.

Bill,
As Wing stated, there's a good deal of room in the cockpit. The Aqua euro transom was first seen in 1994 and looks a lot like the 91 210 WAC/EX with the euro transom area occupying the extended stern section. Somewhere there is a thread with measurements of the cockpit area. I'll do a search to make that point.

I agree the Euro is an acquired taste but in Florida, I felt it was a perfect setup for me. I didn't end up with one but as Wing again stated, once you get acquainted with the area, it grows on you fast. I had a full bracket on my CCP so I had already drank the euro koolaide. That stated, I think you will also be pleasantly surprised with the ride.  :thumright:

Great to see these boats out west
When is a 8yr old motor newer, this is classic aquasport, classic v-rods are not so desirable
It's worth 18k max

62" of usable space in the cockpit alone. :thumleft:
With the 8.5' beam you end up with a nice dance floor in addition to the transom.
Again an acquired taste.

Thanks Bob
Got a question...maybe should be asked under the discussion forum, but here it is
So the 225 Explorer is actually 24' LOA, and Wing 245 is 26' LOA. is the cutty in the 245 larger or is the extra 2' just added to the back? Any other differences between the 2 ?
