All rite, after all the looking and asking I took the captains advise. Removing decals is a pain, there is no magic spray but there is a magic wheel! 3m adhesive removing disc, made of polyurethane. It is a little pricey but definitely works.
45 bucks at auto store but worth it. 104 today in the low country, but managed to do my 170 hull in 4 hours... Yes there was some muscle involved but it worked great. I don't know results if you are not repainting, it does leave streaking. Excess is wiped off with spray on adhesive remover. Since I am repainting it was working for me. 30 year old decals would be a /;:-) to remove otherwise!
Thanks to the classic forum for help. I may replace those original decals in time.
