AC Battery Charger and Charging Proceedure

All,

Can I use a battery charger (link below) to charge my batteries one at a time while in my boat?  With a dual battery setup I am thinking that I would:

1) Turn the battery selector switch to off
2) Connect the charger directly to the + and - terminals (one battery at a time)
3) Charge till charger says it's done.

Is there anything wrong with this approach?

I can't speak for the brand of charger but to the methodology sure.

I've been doing it that way since my first boat.

I will admit that a dedicated onboard charger makes it easier but it will work your way just fine.

You just need to be aware of the sparking that will occur when hooking up the leads.

I agree that a dedicated charger is a far better approach but that is a project for another day.  I am still trying to fix my cold start issue and if the primer lines and new plugs don't do it.. well, I'll see if charging the batteries will help.  Not a bad idea anyway and can be accomplished in parallel to my other trouble shooting efforts. :)
