Pocket Hose and T-H Marine Washdown Adapter
« on: June 17, 2013, 11:08:44 AM »
I installed a T-H adapter to my baitwell fill tube that comes with a threaded connection that allows it to double as a water source for a washdown hose. Then I found a knockoff of those As-Seen-On-TV 50-foot "Pocket" hoses in a shorter, 25 foot length at my local ACE Hardware for $20 that takes up MUCH less room that a traditional hard hose when it is in its, um, 'flacid' state.

Daniel,  It will be interesting to see how that pocket hose behaves with the pumps pressure switch.  I wonder if it will cycle off an on normally.

I bought a pocket hose a few weeks ago.  I hated washing the decks of my Explorer and fighting with my heavy hose.  The pocket hose was GREAT.  It didn't weigh much...  It was much easier to drag around the upper portions of the boat.  The only weird thing was when you turned on the nozzle you had great pressure for a moment then it would decrease a bit as the hose relaxed a bit.  Now you may notice the past tense.... since the first pocket hose sprung a leak right in the middle after just a few weeks.  Oh well.  But then my mom had one that kept leaking so she gave me that.  I put in a new gasket... and I was good to go...  Life was good.  I started to wash the boat yesterday... and BLAM!  the darn thing blew out right at the fitting!  Hopefully your Ace brand will hold up better.  I can tell you some lucky SOB is laughing all the way to the bank selling those darn things.  I see them everywhere.

All -

I was considering buying one of those...  Daniel please provide an update on how yours holds up.  I am currently using a short hose I purchased at Wal-Mart in the camping section.  It's really designed for drinking water use but the legnth was rite and so was the price.  I would love to get a little more length b/c mine will not reach to the front of my boat but when rolled fits very nicely in the tackle box storage space to the left of the water diverter.
Good luck..

I'll keep you posted, guys. I may not have it out until the weekend, and I hope my hose holds up better than yours! I never thought about the pump pressure switch, so we'll see what happens. For as often as I may use it (not very much) this T-H fitting option sure seems easier than installing Y valve to my livewell/washdown pump under the console.

I had one for my Osprey.
It lasted one fishing trip, actually about 2 hours.
Maybe there are different qualities out there?
The wash down switch kept cycling on and off, maybe the elasticity of the hose??
Anyway, it blew apart washing down the deck.
A real POS I am afraid.

I have seen some ads on TV for the X-hose Pro.  They claim to be the original expandable hose.  It is sold by DAP and it has brass fittings instead of plastic.  Maybe it will hold up a tad better than the pocket hose....

Sounds like I better hold onto that receipt from ACE for mine until I see if it holds up. I'll let you know; and please do same if anyone is using that DAP model and it works any better....

I tested the 'Pocket Hose' (spinoff I got at ACE) with my pump this past weekend and it worked great! The pump cycles off automatically when the hose nozzle is turned off. It was only one day and about an hour of use, but so far, so good!

After multiple uses, the 25 foot X-hose/Pocket Hose knockoff I got at ACE Hardware for $20 is (still) working like a charm with the T-H Marine washdown adapter fitting that screws onto the baitwell filler of my 200 Osprey. My wife uses it as a sprayer to cool down instead of jumping over the side when I'm fishing, it's great for quick, on-the-go deck washdowns during a trip, instead of waiting until you get back to the dock, and the hose is extremely portable when not in use. So far, so good.

Steer clear of that pocket hose...junk 2 lasted 1 week 1 lasted 2 days...dap x hose pro is still working after 2 months and I use it several times a week rinsing the boat and watering the garden probably 2-3 hours total weekly.
