1970 240 CC

Hello everyone,
Thanks to those who have already welcomed me and a  howdy, glad to meet you for those I haven't met yet.
First let me say that I have heard that there wasn't a 1970 240. that they came later. I don't know. all I know is that I have made the deal on a 24'-1" length, 8'-0 1/2" beam Aquasport CC hull that has no tag, and no stamped-in hull info. It has had numbers scratched into it and says 1970. Seems like someone wanted the info scratched in that had lost a data tag. i don't know. Anyone that has info please tell me what you know. Once i get it here I will take some pics and maybe that will help also. The boat has cracked floor and liner, cracked up outboard well, center console looks like it was ripped out fairly roughly and is in boat heaven or hell. This boat will need a ton of work, but for 175.00 and I haul away, i think its a steal.

Anyway, I have a lot of thoughts about this rebuild i am embarking on. Some quite ambitious some not so much. Here is my plan to get started. I'm mainly wanting to make sure i am doing this stuff in the right order.
1. Trailer home and drop on ground on tires.
2. Build 3 to 4 cradle type structures to slide under it. I will try to "Bunk" the cradles on each side at the chine in order to let the hull gravity fall into a straight line and get rid of any "hook". (I am not real experienced on any of this but I have been reading a lot while lurking here and have learned some of this from here).
4. Stringline and get control measurements for centerline, depths, several diagonal locations, so I won't lose the hull shape as i remove all of the stringers cap etc.
4. Build a form fit cradle for the rear and remove transom.
5. add 18-36' hull extension. This is probably above my skill level, but I do have some friends that can help out on that.
6. Add new transom. If I go outboard I will do something like the MAKO european transom that was linked in one of the threads here. if not i will do a full height 2-1/4"-3" transom with an I/O. if i go this route, I would like to find a 5.8 ford based powerplant. For its strength and durability, I would love a cobra Outdrive, but i don't know if parts are very available anymore. Wouldn't mind a diesel, but It would never return the investment.
7. completely scrape inside of hull. Remove everything except the cap.
8. Glass repair on hull inner surface.
9. Add Stringers and bulkheads. I really like the way one guy did it here, but I can't find the thread now. He was a young guy that had a lifetime of boat repair experience. i think he had a screenname with "dirt" in it. His infrastructure and deck job were awesome.
10. Complete Deck
11. Remove cap and place stiffback straps at adequate locations to prevent gunwhales from spreading.
12. Flip Boat
13. Repair/Fair/and coat bottom and sides
14. Flip boat.
15. check and fair cap edge if needed
16. Rest of the plan is a surprise and way down the road.

I know its wordy, but do I have the steps in the right order. i just don't want to jeopardize the hull shape or risk chine area cracks.

Don't have any yet. When I go get it I will get pics of the loading, unloading, and all over boat. I will be documenting this build extensively. It is a long term project. Could go 3-5 years.

By all means start a rebuild thread in the "Rebuild" forum (duh) and keep posting pics. It will be interesting to see the hull type. True 240s are also known as Sea Hunters so I'm curious as to what you have.  

Here's a 71. Forward cuddy (really a head compartment/storage). Lots of room. Twins and a tower. Kinda sounds similar to your goal on a reduced frame. Canvas could provide the "shelter/sleep" quarters.

Yeah I wasn't sure if the sea hunter was just the side console or if all of the open cockpit non "Family fishers" were considered sea hunters.

I'm just reading away here. I am so antsy to get this thing here and get started tearing it apart.

I've seen some with center consoles but I believe they were rebuilds. Still, it's hard to say what exactly came out of the Hialeah plant in those days. I'm sure if someone was willing to pay extra, the factory might have done who knows what. Relocation of the console isn't far fetched at all.

Thank you. I just hope I don't jynx anything by planning so much before I actually get it home. I'm like a kid on christmas eve. Getting antsy to get it here and start work. I haven't had a boat in about 5 years. so just having something here to work on will be awesome.
