Lowrance Service/Repair?? Old LMS-332
« on: May 09, 2013, 12:23:07 PM »
Hi All, So I contacted Lowrance for repair. No deal, too old, they will not service anything older than 5yrs.....

My screen is getting funky, sometimes it is just vertical lines, sometimes normal. if I squeeze, tap, move around in its mount it may bring screen back to normal or not..Me thinks it is some tiny circuit board joint issue...

So does anyone have a source for service/repair on older Lowrance units?

Thanks in advance, Rob

Rob,
Depending on what a tech would have to do with it to fix it's problems, the repair cost might be a bit prohibitive.  There may even be a situation where the unit might need a new screen or circuit board, both of which are no longer available.  And you'd still have to pay to have him tear it apart...

Why not just replace it with the same model at $269?...http://compare.ebay.com/like/1808777386 ... s&var=sbar

Rob,

Had the same exact issues with both my old Lowrance LMS-350 and my newer Eagle that's almost the same as your 332. There is no realisic/reasonable way to repair it and the only two options for owners of older, failing electronics are:  1) buy a new technology upgrade, or 2) haunt e-bay for a used replacement that someone else recently upgraded as SB mentioned.  I've gone the latter route more than once and a word of caution from experience...the used ones may work perfectly until you try to make them do one specific thing 6 months later and then you realize you actually bought a bum unit.  For example...bought a replacement LMS-350 and thought all was well until I tried to type the number "8" into a new longitude coordinate.  The number "8" key didn't work at all.   My new Eagle unit works perfectly except for this one little problem....it doesn't let you enter GPS coordinates at all...the second you cue to the screen to edit lat/long numbers it clears out and sends you back to the prior menu screen.

That said, you can take a chance with a used unit, but I will be purchasing new next time.   :salut:

Thanks to both of you. I had looked at new and ebay. Just need to make decision.

Thank You!

Rob
