19'6 Leaning post width
« on: April 21, 2013, 02:18:10 PM »
Hey

I am getting a leaning post made for my 1972 AS 19'6. I was wondering what the width of the console is...I'm at college and don't have the boat with me. Also, what's the best width to get?

Thanks

My 19-6 is a 1982 and my leaning post is 36 inches, but I can't swear that my console is the original  I was told it was and it looks like it should by looking at pics but who knows for sure..

36 is perfect. Two big....or three skinny butts easy.

Can't remember exactly...but your original console is wider than 36....39.5 sticks in my mind.

I have a 74 22-2 but they use the same console (99% sure)... my console is 36" wide for the body- maybe 38" at the lip (where it screws into the floor)...
I added a fiberglass lean post/livewell and it's 36" wide and is a good fit. I could imagine anything from 30-36" wide would be a good fit...

some people narrow their consoles if they add a tower as it gives you more room to walk around.

Hi Chris,
Where did that leaning post/livewell come from? I've never seen one like it but someone spent some time making it look like a factory item. Very nice! Can you take a couple more pictures on it?
Thanks,

Original pic from the ad where I found it on Craigslist. Found it over on the Treasure Coast around Stuart. No brand name or anything on it. I have more pics on my phone,,, need to upload them to Photobucket.

Here's the livewell "liner"- 30gal. added a light at the bottom and had to re-do the plumbing so it would work with the shell/stringer setup in the boat.

I made a mohagany "lip" for the shell to sit on. at the time I couldnt find teak in 1" thickness. cut and spliced together and then stained/sealed with Thompsons (have to re-do with something better this summer).

I think it turned out pretty nicely. the hatch immediately behind gives me access to the livewell pump and thru-hull.

this is from when i was just test fitting. I have since cleaned the pad and put it on a hinge with storage underneath. Also added a diverter valve on the top port side cavity you see there and cut out a piece of lexan for a door. more pics later today.

Great!
Looking forward to seeing pics!

Not sure what kind of access you have to under your decks- i was able to put 1/2" starboard backers under my floor as a backing plate. The bigger the better to help disperse the force of anyone leaning or pulling on itvwhike underway.

Yea, I was going to pull the coffin lid and throw in some backing plates. Thanks for the advice!
