A Coasty, on a bad donut day, can be just as much as a PITA as a cop when DD has day old donuts...

We all know there are 1000s of boats out there that are CG approved out of the factory that have battery TRAYS, not boxes.  We all know a terminal boot takes care of the "ungrounded" terminal.  So, see above.

Ignorance of the CG regs does not fall on the person doing the work, it falls on the owner of the vessel. If it fell on me, I'd be out on his boat every time he used it.  Get my drift?

There is a top for the battery box - it just isn't installed yet.

Shine...and Waterdoc's 22-2 soon for sale!
« Reply #33 on: April 19, 2014, 10:47:43 PM »
Was down at my good friend Dr. Mike's (waterdoc) place this morn, do a little work for him, and we got to discussing his 22-2...as many of you here know, Shine's 22-2 rebuild... viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1194  She sits proudly on her lift on the Hillsborough River just S of Hillsborough Ave in Tampa, Mike has some injector work to get done on the Opti...then she's going up for sale.

I've got to get the Mako 254 up on blocks the next couple days as the trailer under her is for the Aquasport.  Then drag it down Thurs morn, load up the Aqua, get her motor work done...and then she's up for sale.  Have no clue what he is going to ask for her, but it will be a deal whatever it is.  I've done a pretty extensive re-wire of her, here's a link to my pb album when she was at my place...http://s259.photobucket.com/user/seabob ... t=3&page=1

I will keep you all posted...

So yesterday's fun (yes, Easter Sunday, but then we ain't religious) was to put the Mako 254 on blocks so I could pull the 22-2's trailer out from under her.  I've done a bunch of smaller boats this way, but never one as big as the Mako.

So first order of business, find a proper tree...

Tied off the transom with a ratchet strap, then jacked up the keel and blocked both aft corners.  Time to start pulling...

Figure blocks on the keel just fwd of midships ought to do it.  And viola, the Mako on blocks...

...and the trailer ready to go get the 22-2...

Nice job, especially by yourself.

What year is that Mako?

Scotty, she's a mid-80s, don't know for certain the year.  Stringers, transom, floor, fwd seating all re-done.  New fuel tank.  Transom livewell, about 30-40 gallons.  Know anyone who might be interested?  Has tower and leaning post, $5K OBO...

Jason, the doc's original plan was to have me completely rig her, 300 Zuke on a bracket.  But he bought a 28 Whitewater instead, twin 250 Zukes, so the Mako is out of his picture...

I think it would sell up here.

That was back when Mako built a boat. The 254 was the queen of the fleet...until the 28's.

Think the owner should list it on Craig's up this way. BIG Mako following up here...and without question, those late seventies/eighties Makos were a quality ride.

best all around handling boat ive been on was a mako 20.  awesome boats.  handled chop really well and could float in 10" of water with a water logged floor (im sure transom and stringers were wet also) and 3 people aboard.  almost pulled the trigger on a 19 mako before i bought the 200.

Scotty, I'm going to be doing the listing on her (I get a percentage, Tee Hee!!), so I'll list her on Wilmington CL as well.  Good thing is...no more water logged foam, stringers, or any of that BS...completely redone.  I'll post some pics, I have a bunch.  Just need to put the ad together... :salut:

She's been at my house for going on 2 years now.  I moved her around when I mowed the grass.  The original Mako gel (off white) is still in good shape, though she needs some "work".

I'll post up some pics tomorrow...
