FLOSCAN--Newbie Question

This season I'd like to add Floscan, is the 5500 series cruisemaster the way to go for my 1995 Yammi 200(carbed) or can I step up to the Multifuntion digital series ? Thanks !!

Call The Marine Connection (TMC) in Ft. Pierce 772-465-6460 and ask if they still have any of the Yamaha Fuel Management systems left, I think they do.  It comes with everything, Gauge, transducer, harness etc... $299 (I think).  That is a $600+ system new anywhere else.  works great, especially since you are running a Yammi.

Thanks for the tip Mark, I knew that the Yammi FMS are BIG bucks, that why I looked at Floscan.  But heck at that price I will call and check, thank you sir.

a fuel flow meter will pay for itself in short order.  You won't regret spending the money on one I promise!

I can't speak for the Yamaha system but I'm still running the 5500 FS that I installed (1996) first in my CCP and then in my WAC. The CCP had a 200 Evinrude and the WAC sports a 200 Yamaha. Both are carbed versions. The 5500 doesn't do much but what it does is perfect for me. It has remained scary accurate over the past 17 years with little adjustment (after initial setup) and you can't fault the life span. As Wing stated, it is a valuable tool in several aspects. It will help you with fuel management, a big deal with fuel costs these days. It will let you really "fine tune" your boat trim/rpm/burn rate and best of all, relieve you of any uneasiness you may have experienced in the past on the way back in relating to fuel quantity.

Once setup is complete, there is no finer/accurate fuel gauge (except maybe a stick) that I've seen.

Not to derail the thread but I think my Floscan is reading a slightly higher GPH than my engine is actually burning.  The reason I say that is I refuel my boat based on the fuel I burned yet my fuel tank seems to be getting fuller!  The PO installed the unit in my boat so I have no idea how good of a job he did calibrating the unit.  I didn't see a owners manual download available on the Floscan website.

Well in an effort to continue not derailing, I have my "manual" (instruction sheet) at home. I'll get back to you.
You make the needed calibration on the back side of the gauge based on the "gas pump" method.
This of course relates to the 5500 series.

Looks easy enough. The gauge is pretty darn close right now.  Not sure if it worth putting 141 gallons in the boat at current prices just to see if it off or not!

thanks for the input fellas.....my original 1995 yammi fuel management LCD screen is finally starting to burn out.  I was considering the flowscan as a replacement...the 5500 series is 300 bucks factory direct on their website......is the flowscan any more accurate than the yammi ???  Is a new yammi fuel management gauge a direct plug n play  for what I have in there now ???

Well there's two questions I certainly can't answer.

I will say this.
The ultimate accuracy of either unit will depend on how much time you put in checking it. That is, the number of fill ups and calibrations you make. Nothing is 100% but the FS is close enough for me to feel extremely comfortable at sea.

Your fuel management gauge has a white 4-pin plug off the back of it, plugs into the harness form the senders.  At least that's what the "newer" gauges had circa late 90s into, say 2004 or so...
