Re-power for a 19-6

Hello, I am new to the site but was very glad to find it. I have a 19-6 that i have had several years. The Johnson 140HP VRO has finally died. I am looking at a 4-stroke 150HP Mercury but it will add about 50 pounds compared to the current engine. Any suggestions to whether this is a good match up or does somebody have a better idea?

There are a lot of 22-2 and 170 rebuilds on the site. The 19-6 falls in between so reviewing those can possibly help with your decision.

Is the 4 stroke 150 Merc you are looking at new or used?  If new have you consider a 2 stroke 150 Mercury Optimax?  The Optimax is probably a good 70-90 pounds lighter than the Merc 4 stroke and has better performance.

The 4- stroke I am looking at is new. My current engine weighs 378# and looking at the Specs for the new engines the 4-stroke 150 is 455# and the Optimax 150 is 431#. The other option is the 4-stroke 115HP and it weighs 399#. I am curious to what someone thinks the top end difference would be between the 115 and the 150.

New new four stroke non Verado 150hp looks like a real winner.

The new 150 4 stroke merc is only 25 pounds more than a 150 opti. It is 165hp at the prop.
I've done a ton of research on the merc 4 stroke and it looks like a winner, it will be my next new motor.
Would love to see someone on here get one.

Suzuki DF140 weighs 410 lbs. Might be a real good fit.

I have a F115 on my 19-6 and cruise around 25-27 knts at 4K.  i'm getting 4-5 mpg.
With that being said I want to put a 150 4 stroke.  Ive herd good things about the new Merc.  but want to see how the new SHO 150 comes out to play.  Then again if the price is right I would quickly put a 150 otpi on her.  I think Capt. Matt is right she will scream.
