Funny CL Story
« on: March 05, 2013, 11:07:25 AM »
First I would like to explain that for years I have been buying, selling and trading on craigs list. Never really made any money to speak of ( terrible seller), but I have acquired and got rid of a lot of cool and neat stuff.
I was looking for a sounder for my wellcraft about a month ago when someone in Tampa had a 2005 188c for sale for a 150 bucks or OBO, no cables or mounts....(cool, right up my alley) so I contact him and ask if he would take 100 bucks, he says No, Price is firm.... so I told him Yes I will buy it, give me address and I will come and get it. Also told him I had a cable to test it and would bring it with me. He gives me his address and I ask him when I can come over?

Didn't hear back from him for two days and then he sends me this.... "sorry about delay in getting back to u , did some resreach on my garmin, looks like my unit is selling online for $1100 but that is with all the cables if you would to make me a reasonable offer I will sell to you, thx for your interest"

I replied.... "nice......a reasonable offer would be the agreed upon price we discussed. Ebay sold listings over the last 6 months are averaging between 250 and 300 with all the software, chips, cables and mounts. You see, I did do my homework and your original price, tested and working is about right, un-tested and unknown is anybody's guess. If you want more money I would suggest you buy all the cables, software, and mounts and a original box somewhere and then re-list. As for me, I don't do business with people showing character like you are exhibiting.

Paul R Zartman "

He replies telling me that I was the one who tried to "steal it" (his  words) from him...    :puker:
I let him know that he was the one who set the price, I just agreed to buy it. Have a nice life.
I am still searching for a older sounder like the 188c, and I still see his ad on CL in Tampa for 450 bucks....everyday :puker: I laugh about this one every time I see it.....so funny, yet so sad

It amazes me the ummm "characters" you find on CL.  In fact in general it really upsets me to see how many people have no morals or integrity nowadays.  Many members on her know about the 245 Explorer I was going to buy a little over a year ago that the seller sold out from under me.

Around the same time Amy and I were given a new dishwasher...  nothing was wrong with our old one so we put it on CL for $50.  Great deal for a nice clean working quality dish washer.  Since we wanted to be able to demonstrate it to buyers we left it hooked up. I lost count how many people called and set a time to come see it and then never showed up.  Finally a lady and her friend and bought it.  Since she was driving a car she had to come back the next day with a truck. This was great since it gave me time to get the unit pulled out.  Next day comes..  no show... no call..  then she called a few days later and set another time...  no show again. I think this happened four times!  Finally I just put the darn thing on my porch under a tarp.  When she finally came to get it she was annoyed we put it outside!  Some people's children...

Yea, had a similar experience with a swinging bench, gave me half the money then never came back, she called twice to reset pickup time and never showed. Still have it and waiting.....been 2.5 years and moved twice, but I have faith she will return to haunt me.

OK I couldn't resist.  I sent the bonehead and e-mail on the unit.  Lets see what he says.  What size screen is that unit anyways?  Doesn't he know you can buy a NEW better unit for no much than he is asking for a eight year old used unit?  I can't wait for his response.

I am sure that after dealing with me he will never lower the price advertised on CL, but will probably lower it as he deals with people privately, as for me I am going to assume the unit is junk and just wait for another one. But if one of you local guys want to try and get it....I have a cable you can borrow to test it. According to him and the pic it has a local blue chart chip in it too, which i was in need of anyway. Other than that.....have a blast with him, he deserves it IMHO. and I support your efforts

Oddly enough, I have a 178c that I salvaged from a customers boat that was sunk, all cables, mount, ducer, mounted in the shop.  Screen lens has a LITTLE funkyness to it, if I tried to sell it, I wouldn't even ask $50.  Paul, if you want it, you can have it.  Has a chart card in it (pretty sure it's our area), acquires pretty quick, basically works fine.  Want a pic?

Paul, click on the link...http://s259.beta.photobucket.com/user/s ... min%20178c

Forgot to tell you, when I first tried to get it to work, wasn't getting power through the plug on the back of the unit.  Took the unit apart, applied power directly to the hot and ground inide the unit...viola, works like a charm!  So I drilled a small hole in the base of the housing on the backside, fed in hot and ground and spliced right to the feeds coming off the board.  Oddly, the rest of the pins in the plug work fine...

Chilly morn today, acquired a fix in about 45 seconds.  SW FL chart in it (our area).  If you want it, it's yours...

BTW, that funky screen pic only happens on power up.  Once the unit goes to the chart or sounder page (or any other page for that matter), it goes away...
