Hey guys I have the opportunity to get a yamaha f100 for 200 because it has a bad conecting rod. Can anyone give me some info on the motor? Do you think I should pick it up since its so cheap. I am capable of doing the rebuild myself. I want to get it to power my 19' Bonita project boat once it's done. Any info would be appreciated!

I can tell you this... Parts are astronomically expense for these engines. So you may be able to get it for $200 but plan on $3000-$4000 to build another one. I'd keep looking. These engines are not like putting together a 350 Chevy but are far more complex so be careful of what you are getting into.

Thank you for the advice, I know how complex these engines are. I have rebuilt 2 07 Honda 225 vtec and a pair of 08 Zuk 140's. I know I can handle the rebuild I am not worried about part prices ive started pricing everything out already. I really just want to know if anyone has had any problems with reliability and preformance. I have read they have problems with the carbs and some "making oil" or getting water in the oil but that is it. Anything else?

Sorry to underestimate your talent. If you've done a VTEC 225 my hat is off to you! Then I'll ask the question, can you grind journals on these engines and replace with undersized bearings or do you have replace all the components with standard sizes?

Well if I remember correctly what my father told me, I believe the vtec 225 is the Honda accord engine and it can be done but it must be precisely done. It can be ground down to I believe .030 as that is the largest undersized bearing made for them. Also by doing so your are increasing the engine displacement producing more hp and I believe that the stroke of the of the cylinder becomes 4.150. Also I think it increases your compression ratio. I may have worded it a little wrong, it Has been a while since I did them and my numbers maybe off a little.

Price out parts for the f100 prior to the rebuild project. The f80 and f100 are not nearly as common as 90s and 115s. Parts are sometimes quite expensive for the less common Yamahas. The Mikuni carb kits on the odd duck Yamahas alone can be scary.
