Stereo suggestions
« on: February 03, 2013, 10:03:41 AM »
I want to put a stereo in my boat but I am not going to buy a expensive one. I see Dual, Boss, Sony all have marine models. I know Sony is usually decent, but know nothing about Boss or Dual. I also looked at Poly Planar which I don't know much about.

I know about the good brands like Fusion but not looking to dump 3-4 hundred into stereo and speakers. I like peace and quiet when fishing but a little music would also be nice.

Poly-planer marine stereos are great.  I had the MRD-60 in my boat for 6-7 years mounted on the console in the elements.  Just replaced it with the MRD-70 which is a discontinued model was $400 picked it up for $73 on the internet.

I saw a Poly Planar package that was a MR41 radio, two speakers and waterproof face cover for $130.00 but didn't know if it was a good brand or not.

Believe it or not, the Dual package that Worst has on sale a lot for $99 doesn't sound too bad.  I'm done several installs for customers that want exact what you want Roy, just some tunes.  It has a front jack for an ipod and also a front USB port for a flash drive...http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/st ... Make sure you get the USB or SD card on the front face - you will likely use that a lot more that CDs - if not now, then soon.  Dual, Pyle, and Poly are about the same units, but check out power output and remote capabilities.  They have 25 watt and 45 watt models - and that's not true RMS watts - so look for the 40+ watt output if you want some tight bass.  A couple have Radio Frequency (RF) remotes - that's slick cuz you don't have to be in the line of sight for the remote to work.  Don't spend a ton of money on a unit - despite advertising "waterproof" - most won't stand up very well if subjected to salt spray.

Speakers are the difference - find a good set of 6.5 marine speakers, or better yet, 6x9.  A good 6x9 will blow the socks off a 6.5 and will sound amazing if you can find the right place to mount it.

Fernando I don't see your model anywhere for sale any longer. You got a real good deal on that if you got both pieces for $73. bucks.

I just ordered the one I mentioned earlier. I found it for 30 bucks less somewhere else. It is all I need.
The ad doesn't say it but it is suppose to have the spray cover also. It has a IR remote, 40wx4, CD, front USB, Aux. If the speakers don't sound good, I will buy a set of Polk Audio Speakers which I have in my truck and harley. They are very good and marine certified.

First choice is out of stock, but savinglots has them.  I looks nice but I think I like the all in one better. I am not Seabob, and wiring challanged, so the easier the better.

I'm buying in advance - all the models that Nando liked are toast now.  Is there a marine stereo that has the guts/electronics that can be tucked away under the console somewhat out the salt and either a din plug for a remote face or wireless control? And reasonable?
I don't need a lot of power, have room on the console for 6.5's or even some 6x9's but I do want to protect the stereo from theft while docked temporarily by hiding the system.
I'll keep searching thru posts in the mean time (and of course thru the inet)

Nice rig - on the list now  :thumleft:
How about this http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_723 ... RV170.html
I only need radio (maybe weather alert) and an input, like 1/8" jack for an input from music player. USB would be nice to charge phone or music player.

Rick, I believe Lewis touted that one a bit back...good unit, and if you have an extra gauge hole, works perfectly!
