Cool!! :salut:  :salut:

Hat's off to your son, Pete!  My Dad was an ace fighter pilot in his USAF days, so I've been around military aircraft for a long time...love that stuff!  Not to mention my years with Lockheed-Martin...

Sitting on spot 3 in a running H46, a Tomcat gets locked in the port bow cat, JBD goes up and he goes to burner.. It would rattle us to the bone.. Absolutlly unforgetable feeling, truly an awesome display of power...

Pete I wish you son fair winds, a green deck and an OK 3 wire on every trap :salut:  :salut: !!!

my first ship was the Forrestal, we had the last of the F-4 Phantoms, you talk about rattling your bones, when those J-79's went to AB on the cat with the JDB up, especially at night... WOW    Pete, we're all proud of your son out there, doing his thing.. I sure remember the Carrier Quals (CQs) that was a might busy time for us ship's company folks..

They could turn once they put the slats on the wings (F4E and F4F), but that made Mach 2 almost impossible.  I'm a base brat too - We used to go down to the flightline at night and watch them take off - those twin J79s in full AB put out an impressive blue torch!  One base we were stationed had B52s, KC135s and F4Fs - during alerts and exercises they all took off at the same time - the bombers and tankers alternated on the runway, and the Phantoms took off on the taxiway - hell of a show!  Nobody burns J4 like Uncle Sam!    :salut:
