Teak looks a little shaky.

I just sayin.....

On another note.... The hatch "looks" like a Bomar model. I've had mine since 1996 (first the CCP and now the WAC) but....

She's held up to a lot of traffic over the years but leaks like a sieve around the hinges. Still, that drains directly into your bilge and I don't think you'll have a problem there.

You did what I only dreamed. :salut:

Good luck big guy. :thumright:

MAN OH MAN!!!!

She is absolutely beautiful JD :thumright:

He just did a whiz-bang job on everything. The way he matched the deck, the gelcoat, the drains, everything :thumright:

I'm thinking some standup rodholders on the backside of the splashwell would be cool

Thanks Scott    Vertical rodholders sound good.  Show me what you had in mind.

Thanks to everyone for the compliments.  It is much appreciated.

Want to give a special thanks to Bondobill :salut:   He gave his time to send me several emails, pictures, measurements, etc.  I think Bill came up with the best design for anyone that battles the worthless splashwell    I don't feel like cockpit security has been compromised, and I gained close to 2 feet of additional deck space and bilge access.  Thanks again Bill :thumright:

The only thing I am struggling with is the placement of the trim tab control box.  I was thinking in the bilge mounted high up the stringer :?: I have plenty of room that is for sure.

It looks fantastic and I know your thrilled.  Get her rigged up, cauz spring is here (atleast in FL) and get the family out on the water and enjoy the NEW open space. WooooooooooWeeeeeeeeee :king:

Congrats bro.

I've been trying to figure out the same thing.  What do you have behind those round inspection ports on the port side stern area.  That's where I was planning to install mine.  If you install it on the inside of the forward facing bulkhead you could unscrew that inspection cover and just look in there to inspect it for leaks/level pretty easily.  Also, it would be high and dry, out of the bilge.  I'll be interested in what you decide because my set up has little to no storage or extra space.

On my CCP, I mounted the pump in the center console, on top of the tackle storage box on the port side.

Great stuff guys!

Kudos to Bill :thumright: Bondobill exemplifies the ideals of our club. Give freely and help others :salut:

That splashwell design you guys came up with brings it all together. JD...wonder how much weight you shaved back there, between the wet transom ply and the removed glass? 300 pounds?...just a guess.

I'm thinking four standup rodholders on the engine side of the splashwell. Out of the cockpit, in front of the engine, two per side of the engine cut-out. Out of the way, but ready for action. Especially good for grouper rod storage...weight is on the deck, not up high.

The good news is, in that position....a castnet won't catch on them.

BEAUTIFUL job

Thanks Scott    Sorry you had to battle wet feet last fall    I hope I have the pleasure of taking you out again to redeem myself.  Based on what I saw hosing her out, she will drain like a drunk taking a leak :!:

Dan - I must have an older control box but mine will not fit thru those pie plates.  I had it mounted in the splashwell before I removed it.  Not sure where I will put it, but I will sure let you know.  Thanks for the interest

Thanks Gary

Scott - When the splashwell was removed he said that they used a cherry picker to pull it off the boat.  We estimated around 150 pounds just for the splashwell because the upper half does have wood.  I like your idea about the rod holders.  I still have a long ways to go as far as rigging, but I will give you a shout when it's time to install the road holders.

Bob - That location would be ideal, but my hoses coming off the box are short.  I guess that I could get more hose, but then I would have to run them back there    I will see how my body holds up once I get everything else done.  Thanks for the suggestion

I started with the full length hoses back then and had all the rigging pulled out so it wasn't that bad, still.....

When I remounted the unit on my WAC I "thought" about mounting it up by the helm but then I "woke up". It now resides in the stern port side, where one of the batteries was located. Very easy to access, though it required little maintenance while under the console.
There is indeed a lot of room down below and now you have access.
In the 80s you and I could have done a lot of business in the Keys. :pirat:

Thanks Bob.  I looked again last night and since the CCP stringers are so tall, I can mount it up near the top of the stringer and she should never get wet.

I could transport many things in there now :pirat:

Wow John!
That came out amazing!  I love that color blue as well. Looks great, but more than looks it totally eliminates a useless area and makes it a much better use of space. Great job and thumbs up to the craftsman responsible for the worthy conversion. Enjoy!
