Your right Bob with a diesel conversion I'm sure your looking at bigger shafts, struts and wheels...  after all the diesels don't rev as high as a gasser so you take advantage of all the torque with some big a$$ high pitch wheels!

High pitch...19" diameter is about as big as you can fit...and bigger shafts also for sure. Mines equipped with 1-3/8",  which my prop guy said is getting near it's limit (not absolute limit, just eating into the safety factor more than he likes) at 310+hp/4,800rpm gas motors.

Ryan,
We used 1 1/2" on gassers and 2" on diesels.  440 Yanmars got 2 1/4"...

Somebody put 1-3/8 in mine  at some point I reckon...he said he'd have liked to have seen at least 1-1/2", but regardless looked like 19" was as big as I could swing (not that my small blocks were yearning for a set of 32" tug boat wheels or anything).

Just got on.  I have been working on rebuilding a 1983 286 for two years now with original diesels.  It came with twin Volvo 165 hp 40b's from Aquasport.    The original motors were in pretty bad shape so I replaced them later 41b's. Both were inline six's.  Rebuilt both original tranny's which bolted to the 197hp 41b's.  thx, rich
