Talked to my mechanic this morning.  He's a long time very well respected marine mechanic that used to work at a local marina.  He told me without me even asking that the hull is "totaled."  He said there's too much damage and he believes that it would be too expensive to fix. He also said that the lower unit is shot. At this point, I'm just hoping the motor and the boat are totaled so I can receive all the money--we'll see.

That would be music to my ears in regards to the insurance company...

I'd like to see a pic of the lower unit.

Totaled is a relative term...  just means the cost to pay a shop to fix it is more than a certain %of the value of yhe boat.

James it's a shame the local says she is totaled.. The CAS brethren are behind you 150% to guide you through a repair, the pictures don't look that scary, just look at what Aaron (Aswaff400) dragged home!!    :salut:

If it's totaled and you get to keep it, just put a little work in her and she'll be good as new.  Plus you'll learn a bit about glass and gel work.  Tons of brethren here that will guide you step by step on whatever...

Just a bit of advice on the LU.  I'd have the propshaft checked for straightness as well.  The outward damage may just appear to be the skeg, but if the prop took a hit, the shaft could be bent...

hey now, you have to be specific!!!

the damage can be easily repaired, take a look at these pics from my 200 osprey, this area was damaged pretty heavily from the previous owner and now you cant tell anything ever happened. i just had our glass guy in the marina fix it as a side job for cash, did it for dirt cheap!! didnt even cost 400 bucks!

Just pokin  , if you weren't doing such a great job on the build it wouldn't be funny!  Just curious, why for you didn't put a little gel coat on the mould for the stern? I am assuming it's because you are going to paint?

you are correct, the cap is getting awlgrip. i may use gelcoat on the deck for durability but right now the plan is paint the entire boat

I was just going to ask the same question.  Anyway, looks great. I've been thinking about keeping her and bringing her back slow unless I had a great offer of course.

Ok Aquasport family, I took Sally May to a really fancy shop today.  A place called Cherubini Yachts (They obviously make their own yachts    ).  I saw some of the most beautiful boats and yachts I've ever seen not in a magazine; for instance, a 2.4 million dollar sail ship.  I met with one of the owners, a real nice guy, and he seemed as knowledgeable about boats as anyone I've ever met.  He confirmed, what some of you guys already said, the damage looks mostly cosmetic.  He kept the boat so he could check the stringer system and make sure she was still structurally sound.  We also talked about the motor and the trailer but we'll see.  If these guys did work on her, I'm sure she'd probably be nicer than when I bought her.

Glad it is all working out for you but out of curiosity do you know why your motor didn't fire when you needed it to?

I've heard alot of theories but nothing definitive.

That's the kicker right there.  Not something you want to have happen again, regardless of what motor you might be using...
