New Owner Questions
« on: November 24, 2012, 10:22:53 PM »
Hey all-

Recently purchased a 1985 CCP200 from the original owner.  Everything is in working order and boat is solid....repowered in 1998 with Mariner 150 opti-max....trailer is in great shape with good rollers/new tires/bearings/led lights.  He had the original brochure and manuals for almost everything on the boat.  It honestly wasn't exactly what I was looking for....I probably was looking more in the 16-18' range, but I couldn't pass this boat up.  I bought it family/fishing use....chesapeake bay md tribs.....I like the open floor and high sides....definitely a large 20.  The seller removed the coffin box and added a front swivel seat....boat is perfectly set up for 2 guys fishing, but I need some seating for wife and kids.  Couple quick questions....what is the likelihood of purchasing a replacement coffin box vs. having something made?  As much as I like the current open layout for fishing, that coffin box seating would be perfect......seller said he hauled it off to dump just a few years ago.  The boat is ready to go as is, but I think I'm going to want to add some seating sooner than later.  Also, what would this boat draft with an average load? I do some occasional shallow water fishing...was wondering how much water it would need vs a shallower bottom.

What have others in need of a coffin box done? Any other family friendly seating suggestions?

You can sometimes find a coffin on eBay or Craigs, or look around a bit at a marine salvage yard.  It would be serious $$ to get one made...

Draft on a 200CCP is about 12" - you can run pretty skinny on these boats - folks say the CCPs draw more water, but it's really only 2-3 inches more than the semi-V hulls.  Don't forget to trim the motor up if'n you want to go shallow!

looks like that seat mounted in the bow was originally next to the other one at the console.Lots of seating options available, marine bean bags are great as well as deck chairs, mount some jump seats in those 2 back corners.lots of options out there. :salut:

Give these guys a call.  Looks like they have a 200 CCP with the coffin in stock.  The add says a 246 but having owned one it is a 200 CCP.  The transom configuration and coffin box give it away.  They have had several CCP'S over the years and I have bought parts off of a 200 CCP in the past.  Give them a call and make them an offer on that coffin box.  That is what I did on several parts that I got for my 200 CCP when I had her.  Here is the link:

You should not have to check the size.  That is a 200 CCP coffin.  The 222 coffin and 246 coffin had the cooler attached to the front.  Hopefully they will still have it.

On my 20' XF (walk around version of your hull)  The deepest draft of the hull was the bottom of the deep vee about 1/3 back from the bow.  With the motor trimmed up you will hit bottom with the bow before the motor or the stern hits.  She will easily float in knee deep water.

Another thing, I am sure you will but be sure to mount that coffin to the deck.  You will most likely see holes in it from the original install.  They were mounted with aluminum angle iron. The drain in the coffin box should line up with your drain on the deck.  You might even want to check the CCP the coffin came out of.  The mounts might still be mounted to the deck.  If you have any questions just let us know.

yeah.....i had seen those brackets in other pics, and the seller told me how it was mounted........when I ordered the box, I told them to please make sure to include all mounting hardware that came off the old boat.....I described the brackets to them.....I actually asked them for the cushions also.....I saw some cushions in the pics, and I told the guy if they were the coffin cushions, I wanted them also.

yeah, seller left the screws in the deck where the angle iron mounts......but I don't see any other screws up towards the bow.....seller thought he may have covered them when he mounted front swivel seat.
