New Yamaha 150 SHO coming in March, 2013

Our dealers recently returned from the Yamaha test facility in TN and are really excited about the Yamaha 4 stroke 150 SHO slated for release in March, 2013. The current 150 4 stroke is a great choice for 22.2 repowers. A lighter, torquier Yamaha 4 stroke 150 should be a great option next year.

I will be receiving the specifications literature today. I'll try to scan and post the information upon receipt.

Eugene, do you know if they will have a 25 inch shaft version?

They will have one in 25" shaft. After speaking w/ some folks, it looks like it may be a while before these engines are available for repowers. Yamaha will unveil the engine at Miami International Boat Show in February, and then release a few to OEMs and celebrity fishing guides in March. The first batch will be released to OEMs in June for the first batch of 2014 model year boats. The box engine dealers will probably not receive any of the inventory until late 2013.

What do you expect the weight difference to be?

Has Yam described how they went about the weight savings, other than substituting non-critical metallic parts for thermo-formed plastics or reducing wall thicknesses on current metallic parts?  I assume it's basically the same footprint as the current I4 4S 150...

Is it a V6, 4cyl?
With any new outboard model I would wait till at least one year of production for them to work out any bugs before I would buy one.

Since the current 150 is an inline 4, I doubt Yam could get the weight savings they were looking for by going to a V-6.  But the 4 is a BIG displacement 4, almost 2.7L, the same CI displacement as a Vrod.  So it has the torque that displacement gives you.  Actually 2.7L is the same as the old Zuke 225 V-6 2 strokes...

It based off the 4.2L 200 SHO block. It will be around 10% lighter than the current 495 lb 4 stroke, so around 450. The current lineup of 200-250 SHO motors are pretty impressive, and are lighter than the old 2 stoke Vmax outboards, so I would expect good things from the 150 SHO.
