24 Side console
« on: August 01, 2008, 01:49:59 PM »
I have an original 24 side console sea hunter.  I believe its a 71.  I am about ready to initiate a complete rebuild.  I would like to keep it mostly original but will need to make some basic upgrades/changes to decking, stringers etc.  Any advice before I dig in?

Welcome the world of AS rebuilds.  First we would like for you to start a thread in the Rebuild area.  Second post lots of images before and after and all along the way because, we (I) love "boat porn", and watching guys make progress and encouraging one and all.

I use photobucket (see below) to store the images that way I can post whereever I need to.

Good Luck

Welcome aboard Shalla Belle :!:  :!:
There is a member that has done a lot of work rebuilding his 240 Sea Hunter. See this Topic:
http://www.classicaquasport.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=858&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

You should be able to glean a lot of help from it.

Again, welcome aboard.

I have a 240 Seahunter side console 1972 outboard model. Currently getting boat ready for the sand bar in the Spring. One of the items I need to replace is the cudy hatch and door, if anyone has an idea on how to find this and other parts, let me know.  I have checked with the Marine Connection here in Florida and they don't have it.  Having issues with attaching picture "pixels" I tried to crop photo down and still not able. Formally a Seacraft owner and am new to the Aquasport. From what I have seen so far the 240 is better built than my old 20 of the same year. Thank you.  Nick

If you can take a photo with a camera or a smart phone, you're 1/3 the way there.

I'm so sure you can, I'll also take a leap of faith and bet you can transfer said photo to a file on your computer (2/3rds there).

Now I'll leap yet again and assume you know where you put it on your computer so.....

The next time you're visiting the Forum try clicking on the Photo Gallery. Then click on "Members Gallery". This will open your gallery (of which you currently have no entries). Click on the "upload photos" upper right corner and now do your thing. How to use the Photo Gallery (aka Posting photos) is pinned in most forums so check out the thread for a complete explanation on using/doing it.

The best part of using the Photo Gallery is that it doesn't matter what size your photo is, it re-sizes the pic to fit properly in your post. It's the last 1/3 of posting.

This link is for a photo I took from the Gallery and placed in a post. The steps are shown below the photo.

Good luck.

Thanks to all for the help. I was able to post a pic of the boat and will send more as I go along. In reference to Classic Seacraft owners they can relax knowing they have a great hull design. Before getting the 240 I almost came home with a 1964 21 from Key West, unfortunatly all the gelcoat was toast. The 240 makes better sense for my wife with the cuddy and storage everywhere. I have found room ahead of the fuel tank for a large water tank installation 30 gallons or more! The more I work on it the more I like the layout.

Nick,

Love that platform!  Any chance this was the 240 posted in MIA craigslist for a while this summer?  Was last listed in the $500 range?  I semi-seriously looked at that boat before I got my 246CCC.  Interior seemed salvageable if the floor and transom weren't completely "toast".

Nick,
I also have an old 240 seahunter. Mine had been rebuilt as a center console, but when I got it, it was all rotten, so I am rebuilding it totally. I think I am going back with the original layout, side console, with forward seating.
What kind of power does yours have? Is it a project, or a running boat?

I have a few pics of my rebuild and a few pics of other boats I am using as diagrams and layout ideas. in my gallery.

Boat was purchased here in Miami on Craigslist add posted for $500 The deck and topsides are solid transom has some damage from a colision on I95 Took out motor and did some cosmetic damage. Port stringer has some separation at storage hatch and is accessible. I plan on repairing in place and painting topside and below waterline with bottom paint. My re-power will happen in early spring, used Yamaha 4stroke 225 or 250hp  Not going the distance on a rotisserie restoration. The boat has been kept in decent shape and has had fuel tank, hoses, cushions and hydraulic steering replaced. It appears to have been kept out of the weather or at least been allowed to drain and as a result gelcoat on hull is viable with a good compound/wax treatment. Just removed nav light and cleats at bow and found very little core damage from moisture. Still ripping out carpet in cuddy. Factory used some kind of industrial strength adhesive. Drained 40 gallons from gas tank "premix" I have a bater deal with the landscaper for the gas, clear and good! Boat is still registerd for 2012.

Nick,

Sounds like a great plan.  Post pics as you go!  I'd love to see more of that boat than what the craigslist photos showed.
