divinycell questions
« on: November 03, 2012, 08:44:38 AM »
Ive been starting the budget and planning phase of my rebuild. Started to look towards using it on the deck of the boat and maybe some other areas. Ive found some basic info but have a few other questions.

The price seems to be about half of coosa, what are the major differences?

Is the h80 in the 1/2" rigid enough for decking? If so will a single layer of glass on the bottom and 3 layers on the top be enough.

Will I have issues such as console and hatch screws pulling loose?
Ive never met an alligator I didnt want to turn into a wallet and side of nuggets.

Coosa has fiberglass in it, and is much denser than the h80. If it were me, id have 2 layers of biax on each side of it. No, you cannot screw to it. Any fasteners should be thru bolted, going thru some type of high density core like coosa or pvc board, along with beefy backing plates.

The thicker the better, but 1/2 will be fine, especially with 2 layers on each side. Probably get away with one layer on the bottom, but might be a little "bouncy" depending on the distance between the structures underneath...

I recored my coffin cover with divinycell. It does make for a very light structure but you will not be able to get any screws to hold. I overdrilled all the holes and wallowed out the bottom of the holes. Then filled each with epoxy cabosil short strand mix and redrilled. This so far has seemed to work really well. The cover now weighs 33 lb and has a slight spring to it when bounced on. I only have one layer of 1708 on the bottom and this seemed to make it plenty strong. If you can find it check out nyloboard.
