Teleflex Seastar Leak in Cold Wx

Problem: After a cold night, the engine (originally raised and centered) is flopped to one side and hydro fluid is pooled in the engine well.

It does not leak at all during spring/summer/fall months (warmer temps).

Now I turn the wheel fully in one direction when I park the boat, this minimizes the leak (still a little bit of a leak though).

Anyone seen this before? I can't isolate where the leak is coming from and why. Seals?

Again, only leaks when temps below mid forties...

Run your fingers around the bottom of the cylinder on both sides. My guess is that is where it is leaking from. Here is the seal kit,

Sounds like a bad seal that hardens up in cool weather to me. Maybe by moving the engine you decrease any pressure in the line. You might need to buy a new seal or seals for you unit.

Someone will come along with a good answer for you, as mine is only a guess.

I don't want to get into your personal life, but I think you've blown a seal...     Get the seal repair kit and your leak should go away.

I just recently installed did the seal kit on mine.  Easy to do and it stopped the annoying drip and oil in he splashwell.  This will give you a chance to flush out the system and clean and grease the tilt tube and related parts which should be done anyways.

Definitely the end gland seals.  Buy the replacement kit (includes new end caps), I'll send you the spanner wrench to use, saves you about 1/2 on the cost.  You just have to send it back.  I have 2 of them...

Once you have a set of end caps it would be easy to take your old ones to a hydraulic shop for o-rings and seals the next time around.
