Betteries Help
« on: November 12, 2012, 02:07:26 PM »
I need help with this issue. Im thinking in leaving my boat on the water for few months and want to know if I can connect a battery charger directly to the dock power or do I need to have a power shore to do this. My boat is a 83, 22-2 EF. If not how can I keep the batteries charge while is in the water. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for your help.

Alberto

Alberto,
You can plug your charger directly into the 120VAC outlet on your dock, won't hurt a thing.  If you have a "modern" charger, leave it plugged in all the time as well.  Remember to keep your shut-off valves closed, inspect your hoses for cracking and brittleness (replace if visual and tactile inspection shows these issues).  Keep the cockpit clear of any debris (leaves and the like) that could clog your cockpit drains.  And if you are going to be away from the boat for significant lengths of time, see if a buddy that lives close to the boat will keep a good eye on her, say a couple times a week.  If you live close, well, never mind...

Thanks for the information. Here is another question which charger will be the best option for this. I have 2 IS deep clycle batteries.

Thanks again,

Alberto

Alberto - if you are going to buy a battery charger, get a 2-bank charger and mount it in the console - any of these will work:

Defender - sale at $85:  http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?pat ... id=2101659

Amazon - sale at $70:  http://www.amazon.com/Marinco-Battery-C ... y+chargers

eBay - $60 - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bass-Pro-Shops- ... ar&vxp=mtr

Good luck!
