The jack plate will give you some setback freeing up some aft deck space as a bonus.  I have a standard jack plate on my 170 and I love the extra space it gives me.

As I talk with the marina, I'm being given an option on gauges for the e-tec 150.  I can get either the i-command twin 3.5" gauges or the i-con twin 3.5" gauge system.  I've looked at pictures of both and done the virtual tour on Evinrude's website to look at the set up options and configurations for both.  The dealer is telling me three things after having installed many:
1. that there tends to be a lot of reflective glare on the new i-con gauges due to the convex glass
2. the buttons on the i-con gauges need a lot of pressure to be activated vs the i-command gauges
3. for those of us over 50, the size of the digital images and numbers in the i-command are way easier to read

So, I'm leaning toward the i-command gauges... any opinions out there?  Thanks!!

I've done a ton of I-Command installs.  They are Lowrance LMF-400 gauges (Zuke uses the same gaige for their SMIS stuff), very easy to use and navigate through.  Of course, configure them to look analog or go the digital display...or both.  Typically I have installed 2 gauges, one to serve as a speedo (accurate, as it's GPS speed), the other tach.  Realizing that each I-Command gauge can display up to 4 engines, there is a lot of data available to you.

The install is simple and straight forward as the I-Command network is all NMEA 2K, so it's just a matter of tees, termination resisters, backbone harness, sensors, gauges and a power drop.  If you want to save yourself some money, I can walk you through the install.  Decent access under the helm is a plus...

first of all, thanks for the offer to walk me thru it.  If circumstances were different, I'd take you up on that, but I'm dealing with a REAL SHORT window for use this summer, and I don't have the time to tackle it, even though I really want to...

sounds like you're a fan of the i-command gauges... I'm leaning toward them unless I get info to the contrary.

I was trying to get some feedback from any members who have had the opportunity to use the new i-con gauges AND the i-command gauges and see which set folks prefer and why... the promo Evinrude is offering gives me the choice to select the i-command 3.5" 2 unit set or the newer i-con set of 3.5" gauges, having used neither, I was looking for info to help me make a good choice

Thanks again for your offer... I'll be working on this boat for years to come and I'm sure I'll be in a position to take you up on a similar offer of yours sometime in the near future...

Are you sure your dealer knows what he is talking about?  ICON is the control head (the binnacle), I-Command are the gauges.  See this link...http://www.evinrude.com/en-US/icon

I will do some more digging and see if there is such a thing as ICON gauges...

Go with I-Command.  Save you some bucks, and they basically do the same thing as ICON.  BTW, the speedo on the I-Command can be set to GPS speed...

And another "no-brainer" type deal.  Why do you need the gauges if you can just show all your chit on the head unit?  Hello????

And another thing.  Honestly.  I swear I've seen those ICON gauges before.  Around 2008, Faria, 10 to 1 makes them.  They tried to sell us them back when I was with Proline...

The gauges are included in a promo pack that Evinrude is offering... I pay the same price either way, so, no money difference... they both provide the same info (GPS speed etc), so purely a user interface question about which one is easier to read, less glare, easier to operate or set up, etc...

Well that is good.  Unfortunately, I don't think you're going to find anybody here that has experience with the ICON gauges...barely any that have the I-Command.  You may want to try THT or the Etec owners forum...http://www.etecownersgroup.com/?forum=115573

Just wanted to share how you're great advice turned out.

My 76 22-2 now supports a 2014 Evinrude E-Tec 150 mounted on a CMC Powerlift aluminum bracket that lifts the engine ~8" above the transom cut out


The console sports 2 new 3.5" iCommand gauges, a GPS unit, ignition and binnacle... No time to build up a new facing for the console this year, but that'll be a fun project for next spring...


I've run the boat for about 20hrs so far and LOVE the engine.  Evinrude's claim that the E-Tec is as quiet as a 4-stroke is close but not quite true... at idle and cruise, the noise level seems just as quiet as a 4S (don't need to raise your voice to chat with someone next to you while at the helm), but at 1500 rpm, the motor has a throaty sound that makes it louder... I notice it cause that's the RPM that we sit at while fishing & fighting current in Woods Hole, so, it's a LITTLE louder than I thought it would be while fishing, but VERY quiet compared to my old motor.  The fuel burn is GREAT.  I have a small tank (27 gals) and this engine sips gas.  At 2850 rpm, I burn only 4.8 gals/hr and cruise at ~23mph... very comfortable in 1-2' chop.  Traveling 23 miles using only 5 gallons of fuel is amazing for someone like me with such a small gas tank... the 1.8 gal oil tank is down only about 2 quarts after the 20 hrs!  

So, thanks to everyone who helped me through this re-power... I'll be working on this old hull for probably the next 5yrs trying to get a new transom, deck and cap on it... so, I'll be back!  Take care and have fun on the water!

He's got cable steering Chris.  Click on the first pic, takes you to his pb album, then go through the slideshow.  In one pic can see the cable going into the tilt tube.  The helm looks like a NFB tilt...
